As a Singaporean local Chinese, I have never tried hawker chan till today. Was finally near the area in the morning. Queue took around 30 mins. Staff was friendly, food was prepared quick. Char siew noodle is indeed the star. For $4.50, I got 7 thick cuts of char siew. I have never eaten such thick slices at this price, and it’s done so well! I ate them all despite not liking char siew. Skip their “star” dish, the soya sauce chicken rice $3.50. Portion is also huge, and chicken is generous and big, but tastes just alright. For the price, rly unbeatable. To taste this good? No wonder there’s still a long queue even after they lost the Michelin star. Apparently this is the original outlet. Was hoping to see the founder but there’s 3 of this staff instead. Worth trying, and coming back, as a local with very picky tastebuds.

I first tried this hawker stall more than 15 years ago, long before it earned its Michelin recognition. Back then, it left a lasting impression, so when I spotted a surprisingly short queue recently, I decided it was the perfect time for a revisit. Unfortunately, this visit didn’t quite live up to my memories. The roast meat lacked the depth of flavour and succulence I had expected, while the noodles leaned noticeably on the sweet side, which wasn’t to my taste. The standout, however, was the soya sauce chicken. It was tender, juicy, and had the signature silky texture that made it enjoyable despite the other disappointments. At $6.50 a plate, the price remains reasonable, especially considering its Michelin reputation. While the quality didn’t completely meet my expectations this time, it’s still worth trying if you’re curious to see what the hype is about.

It's been quite some years I last ate their soya sauce chicken noodle.. was very good which I used to have like 2 to 3 times a week even I stay quite far away.. Always long queue.. Today queue looks ok.. so join in queue and order their their soya sauce chicken noodle with additional char Siew.. chicken soft but tasteless but the char Siew is nice. Noodle don't taste nice still have the noodle kee smell. And like half cook.. making it too chewy.. not recommended.. Long queue as usual.. I was in around 16 diners Infront of me.. took me around 30min till I get to order..

It is surreal to think that an unassuming corner stall tucked within a sprawling food complex once became the collective pride of an entire nation. Creating global headlines in the culinary scene by earning a prestigious Michelin star in 2016, Hawker Chan was the first street food vendor in the world to achieve this accolade, feeding quality meals at a wallet-friendly price to the masses in Singapore. At the height of its Star power, queues snaked through the food centre and wait times varied between 1 to a whopping 5 hours. Today, depending on the time of visit, it is considerably shorter, but the quality and dedication put into the food remain. Plump and succulent soy-glazed chickens attract one’s attention from the glass display, along with caramelised roast pork (char siew), crispy pork belly and roasted pork ribs slathered in a sweet, savoury sauce. Served over rice or noodles, additional side dishes such as bean sprouts and seasonal vegetables are also available to order. But beyond the gastronomic satisfaction, I was particularly moved and inspired to catch the humble legend himself quietly at work in the early dawn hours before the lights to his signboard were switched on. It’s a glimpse into the life of hawker owners islandwide, as Mr Chan prepares the day’s dishes for his team to serve the lines that form for breakfast and lunch. Star or not, Hawker Chan continues to build on its legacy till this day with each classic plate of meat and rice. 🥢 🍗 🐓 🐖 🍚 🍜 ⭐️ 😋

Extremely long queue, especially during weekends and lunch hour, easily will need to wait up to 30 minutes. Food is overrated. There is tinge of sweetness in the dishes. Store will be kept open till everything is sold out, which will be around noon. If still craving for it after they're sold out, can head to the standalone branch which is located opposite of Chinatown complex, prices may vary.
