Really enjoyed the popiah here. It’s one of their signature items and definitely worth trying if you’re in Chinatown. The food court gets pretty busy, and there’s usually a good crowd at the stall. The popiah itself is huge and really filling — one roll is honestly enough for a meal. If you’re planning to try a few different things around the food court, I’d recommend sharing one. Otherwise, you’ll probably be too full for anything else 😄 Definitely a local favourite worth checking out.

Today, we had the opportunity to taste popiah at the Chinatown Complex, a delightful dish we overlooked during our previous visit. A friendly aunt had recommended this stall as the best spot for popiah when we asked for dining suggestions that day. So, we decided to grab two rolls of this popular snack today. **Chinatown Complex features a variety of stalls offering mouthwatering Chinese dishes that will satisfy your hunger! Popiah is a favourite delight dish among locals. While it's available at many hawker centers, this stall distinguishes itself with the superior quality of its popiah. We believe it offers the best we've had, with an ideal crunch and a balanced texture—not too moist or dry—absolutely delicious. It's also a dish that visitors and tourists are eager to try. About the Dish! Enjoy a flavourful experience with each generously filled roll, priced around $2.40—a small cost for such a rich taste. They have perfected the ultra-thin, handmade popiah skin, so light you might mistake it for paper. Inside, crispy fried bits add a delightful crunch that keeps every bite exciting. While it costs 20 cents more than typical same dish at different hawkers. it's certainly worth it. A Symphony of Fresh Flavors! The popiah presents a colorful mix of ingredients—finely diced hard-boiled eggs, crunchy peanuts, and fresh vegetables wrapped snugly in the handmade skin, which remains soft and resilient. The sauce is perfectly balanced—not overly sweet—allowing the natural flavors to shine through. If you desire some heat, just request chili, and the vendor will gladly add it. Experience the Crackle and Crunch! With each bite, the satisfying crunch from the crispy bits enhances the sensory experience, providing a texture that matches the flavour. It’s a delightful blend of crunch and sweetness, perfectly portioned to satisfy yet leave you wanting more. Indulge in this culinary masterpiece—each roll tells a story of tradition, skill, and irresistible flavour. Ideally, each person should enjoy two hearty rolls. After that amazing first bite, I'm already excited to try more options on our next visit. The Craft of the Popiah Artisan! With each roll, the popiah maker dedicates passion and skill to creating the perfect popiah, filled generously with flavorful ingredients. I noticed the buzz of eager patrons—both tourists and locals—lined up for this culinary delights. It must be exceptionally good! Recognition and Accolades! This stall has received the well known Michelin Plate (now known as "Michelin Selected") for 2024-2025 and has also been praised by Makansutra. Although there were times the line was quite lengthy, every minute spent waiting was absolutely worth it. In conclusion, this stall offers some of the best popiah around, making it a must-visit if you find yourself in the area. Happy snacking! Chris June 2, 2026 “SG Favourite” “SG Delights
View on GoogleIf you are looking for a masterclass in textures and flavors wrapped up in a single bite, Ann Chin Popiah at Chinatown is an absolute must-visit. It is easily one of the best Popiahs I have ever eaten, and it completely earns its Michelin Guide recognition. The Flavor Profile What sets this Popiah apart is the incredible balance of flavors. Every bite is a massive burst of sweet, savory, and spicy notes. They don't skimp on the sauces: the sweet black sauce (tian mian jiang) provides a rich, earthy sweetness, while the combination of their chili sauce and chili paste delivers a robust, complex kick that lingers beautifully without overpowering the rest of the ingredients. The Ultimate Texture Match The execution here is flawless. The turnip filling is beautifully stewed—juicy and flavorful without making the delicate, paper-thin skin soggy. But the real star of the show has to be the crunch. They include these incredibly crispy bits inside (fried batter crumbs) that provide the perfect textural contrast to the soft, tender turnip and chewy skin. The Verdict: From the sweet and fiery kick of the sauces to the masterful contrast of the juicy filling and hidden crispy elements, this is street food elevated to perfection. It is a well-deserved Michelin-awarded gem that you shouldn't pass up if you're in the Chinatown area. I would have taken more photos.. $2.40 each
