Came back for the second time in two months, this time to celebrate Father's Day with my family. It was their first visit, and while parking was a slight challenge, the excellent food, warm ambience, and attentive service more than made up for it. Lunch was fantastic, and thanks to Kelly's attentive service, the experience was even more enjoyable. Being seated in the spacious VIP room also added to the occasion, making our family celebration feel extra special. My family left happy and satisfied. Every dish was well received, with the exception of the noodles, which received mixed reviews. Overall, I'm glad Zui Yu Xuan lived up to its reputation and truly saved the day. We'll definitely be back.
View on GoogleA hidden gem for authentic Teochew cuisine in Singapore! Located in the historic Far East Square area, this restaurant is housed in the former Cui Ying Academy, a cultural heritage building dating back to 1854. The beautiful wooden doors and courtyard create a charming old-world atmosphere, perfect for gatherings and business dinners. The chilled drunken crab, Puning fermented bean sauce chicken, and Teochew oyster omelette are must-tries. We also enjoyed the rich Teochew-style dishes and especially loved the creamy yam desserts. A great place for a special meal — private rooms available around $60 per person.
View on GoogleWe chose this restaurant to celebrate my mum’s birthday, and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The excellent service began even before our visit. When I called to make a reservation, the staff member who assisted me (sorry, I didn’t catch her name) was patient, friendly, and very helpful. She took the time to explain the private room options, addressed my concerns about accommodating a baby stroller, and even helped with my request to extend the validity of my birthday voucher, which was subsequently approved. Her responsiveness left a great first impression. The private room on the second floor was perfect for our family gathering—spacious, cosy, and tucked away in a quiet corner. There was plenty of room for our stroller, and the comfortable setting made it feel more like a living room than a typical private dining room. It was also a lovely space for family photos after dinner. A special thank you to Pauline and Lee Moy for taking such good care of us throughout the evening. Pauline’s warm birthday wishes for my mum and the complimentary longevity buns were thoughtful touches that made the celebration even more meaningful. Both of them were attentive to our dietary preferences, clearly explaining which dishes could be modified and reminding us when certain ingredients were present. Their attentive service throughout the meal, from changing plates to regularly topping up our tea, was much appreciated. The food was excellent. Highlights included the rich and flavourful pig’s stomach with fish maw soup, the exceptionally fresh steamed red grouper, the delicious drunken prawns, and the seafood Mee Sua with fantastic wok hei. Most importantly, everyone in our family left happy and satisfied. The combination of attentive service, excellent food, and a comfortable private dining setting made this a truly memorable birthday celebration for my mum. We look forward to returning again.
View on GoogleZui Yu Xuan Teochew Cuisine offers an undeniably beautiful and clean dining environment housed within a heritage shophouse. While the ambience is elegant and comfortable, the kitchen’s execution was unfortunately inconsistent, resulting in a meal that felt decent rather than truly outstanding. Some dishes were very well done. The seafood tofu was an excellent rendition of the dish, nicely fried, addictive, and well balanced in flavour. The Australian scallops stir-fried with cai poh and XO sauce were another highlight. The scallops were fresh, sweet, large, and succulent, while the sauce was properly reduced and concentrated, showing that the kitchen is capable of precise and thoughtful cooking when sufficient care is taken. The orh nee was also well executed, silky smooth with a rich and distinct yam flavour that stood out as one of the better dishes of the meal. The signature fried Orh luak was decent with fresh and plump oysters. Unfortunately, several other dishes suffered from fairly significant technical flaws. The razor clams stir-fried with cai poh and XO sauce were particularly disappointing. The dish arrived in a watery and poorly reduced sauce that lacked the concentrated depth and intensity one expects from XO sauce. The capsicum was likely added at the wrong time or cooked without proper moisture control, causing the released moisture to dilute the entire dish. Either the capsicum should have been stir-fried first to drive out excess moisture, or significantly more XO sauce should have been added to compensate. As served, the dish felt like it was from amateur cooking hour and was a waste of the freshness of the clams. It was totally unacceptable. The prawn balls were similarly underwhelming. They lacked both the natural sweetness of the prawns and any noticeable depth from the marinade. Even the conpoy braised with eight vegetarian treasures felt somewhat flat. While there was a mild natural sweetness, the dish lacked the layered complexity needed to make it memorable. Overall, while the restaurant provides a refined and comfortable setting, the kitchen’s inability to maintain consistency across the menu was quite frustrating. At this price point and level of dining, one expects greater technical precision and stronger flavour execution than what was delivered during this visit.
View on GoogleI came here for a family celebration at Zui Yu Xuan Teochew Cuisine 醉宇轩经典潮膳, and it turned out to be a really memorable night. The team helped with the party arrangements and made everything feel easy, which I appreciated. The food was excellent, and the karaoke added a fun touch that kept the evening going.
