Despite initial lukewarm reviews for Ka-Soh’s fish soup the longing for this nostalgic but yet iconic dish lured me right back to Tanglin Cookhouse to satisfy my cravings . Served in a piping clay pot laid on a wooden basket , the presentation was impressive enough to whet my appetite. At the first glance, it had all the makings of a classic reborn. Unfortunately, that excitement was short-lived and the illusion did not last. As a loyal patron of the original eatery, I found the fish slices noticeably lacking their signature meatiness and succulent texture. The broth was decent , but somehow it fell a little short of the rich, soulful flavor I so fondly remembered. Though the claypot shallow dish kept the heat intact , it also meant a skimpier portion of soup, forcing me to pace my noodle-eating thus saving more broth to enjoy. On contrary , the prawn paste fried chicken was a standout, coming tantalizingly close to the original recipe. Marinated deeply and fried to perfection, the crispy skin delivered incredible flavor in every bite. The yam dessert ended things on a higher note. Generously drizzled with rich coconut milk and sprinkled with ginkgo nuts, it provided a comforting finish that offset my earlier disappointment with the fish soup. With the heritage meal set running on a limited promotional period till end August, dining at Tanglin Cookhouse is still worth a trip down the memory lane . One last note, advanced reservations are strongly advised during peak dining hours for this popular eatery. For guests opting for spice-laden and hot soupy dishes will likely find the air-conditioned interior far more comfortable than outdoor seating. Credit goes to the serving team who work tirelessly to provide attentive service despite being currently under staffed.
View on GoogleWanted to order the slice fish bee hoon but from some of the negative review, I held back. Ordered the 2 course set lunch, it turned out pretty good & portion served is decent. The har jeong mid joints chicken wings is nice but I reckon that it is a little of the steep pricing @$15. Getting staff’s attention was challenging as they’re too busy during lunch time peak hrs. Nevertheless, they’re rather friendly
View on GoogleVisited Tanglin Cookhouse and tried some of the dishes from their collaboration with Ka Soh. Unfortunately, we didn’t quite enjoy the Ka Soh Signature Fish Noodle Soup as the fish itself was a little too fishy for our liking. The Ka Soh Prawn Paste Chicken Mid Wings were the highlight of the meal. Crispy, flavourful, and paired perfectly with the signature chilli sauce. The Indian Butter Chicken tasted alright, but the chicken was kind of tough, so we didn’t finish it. The Turmeric Pilaf Rice with cranberries was fragrant and delicious, while the naan was not as soft as we had expected. I like the yam orh nee. The heritage gula malaka sago pudding was not to our liking. We just ate a few scoops.
View on GoogleFirst time dining at Tanglin Cookhouse. Went there for the beef wellington and it didn’t disappoint. The beef and pastry done right. We also had the Yorkshire pudding, mutton soup, roasted chicken, tiger prawn aglio olio and bread & butter pudding. Overall, the food is great and value for money. The staff (Karl and Andy) were attentive and friendly. Loved the overall experience. Will visit again.
View on GoogleDecided to give a try since I saw the reel on the collaboration of Ka-Soh n Tanglin cookhouse. Ordered the $58 set for 2 pax. First came the fried wings, color of the wings looks darker brown which I believe its the overused oil to fry it. Taste wise is ok. Nothing to shout about. Next came the main item which I was looking forward to. Sadly, the presentation and the strong fishy smell of the fish and the slices of cut fishes wasn’t enticing for me to be excited to take the first mouthful. The fishiness of the dish is thankfully covered by the chili padi. The next main item was the butter chicken briyani which I gave to give a thumbs up for the taste n texture of the briyani rice and the nice spice of the curry n chicken thighs Finally, the orh nee dessert was good. Won’t be back.
