I was first attracted by the chicken satay promotion and was glad I tried. The satay was fragrantly seasoned and chicken texture was easy to bite off the stick. Service was good too and staff were attentive to refilling of water. Decided to take away the sambal tiger prawns and brinjal. The prawns were big and succulent, sambal had the right level of fragrance and spiciness, not salty. Very tasty and enjoyable. Sambal Brinjal was very tasty too. I find the prices reasonable. Will definitely be back again!
View on GoogleVerandah@Rael’s delivers the kind of authentic Peranakan cooking that hits home. The Babi Pongteh and Curry Chicken were tender, richly spiced, and came with perfectly fragrant turmeric rice that didn’t need a second invitation. The Signature Indo Chili Beef lived up to the hype—savory and deeply flavored without being overpowering. You can taste the care in every dish; this isn’t rushed food. Yes, the plates are modest, but the quality keeps you coming back more than the quantity might suggest. Staff are attentive and genuinely warm, making the whole experience feel less like dining out and more like family cooking. At around $13-$23 per main, it’s solid value for Orchard. Highly recommend if you’re after respectable Nyonya cuisine that actually tastes like home.
View on GoogleThe restaurant has a very elegant Peranakan-inspired concept with soft lighting, beautiful tile details, and a cozy colonial-style interior that makes the place feel warm and welcoming. The ambience feels slightly upscale but still comfortable enough for a casual dinner with friends or family. The sambal long beans were surprisingly one of my favourite dishes of the night. The beans were fresh, crunchy, and still retained a nice bite without being overcooked. The sambal gave just enough spice and fragrance while the crispy bits on top added extra texture and savouriness. Simple dish, but very addictive. The honey pork was also really enjoyable. The pork slices were crispy on the outside while remaining tender inside, coated in a sweet savoury glaze with sesame seeds that made it fragrant and slightly sticky in the best way. It paired very well with the buttered rice. The portion was quite generous too, definitely suitable for sharing. The buttered rice looked simple but was fragrant and fluffy, with a rich buttery aroma that complemented the stronger flavoured dishes really well. Sometimes plain-looking dishes end up balancing the meal the best. I also liked how they served complimentary tea in such pretty Peranakan-style cups. The warm tea helped balance the richness of the food and added to the whole comforting dining experience. The fruit platter was refreshing and a nice way to end the meal. The fruits were sweet and fresh, especially paired with the rojak-style dipping sauce which added a slightly tangy, nutty flavour combination. Overall, the food here feels comforting and homely while still maintaining restaurant-quality presentation and flavours. Portions are good for sharing, flavours are rich without being overwhelming, and the environment makes the dining experience feel relaxing and enjoyable. Definitely a nice spot if you enjoy Peranakan and Indonesian-style flavours in a more modern and stylish setting. ✨ Their signature dishes like Honey Pork, Chicken Buah Keluak and Sambal dishes are also commonly highlighted by diners and reviewers.
View on GoogleTasty Peranakan dishes, value for money, good service! We liked all the dishes we ordered. Chap chye gravy had good flavor. Chicken Buak Keluak was tasty. (Note: Buak Keluak nut is mixed with meat in their style of preparation.) Sambal brinjal, honey pork were great. The pong tauhu soup was generous for the price and had decent depth of flavor. On the whole portion sizes are generous. Service is good, eg they comped the sambal we requested and had a good service recovery for a small issue we encountered. Ambiance is casual but nice. Recommended for great tasting and good value Peranakan food in the area!
