This place is recently opened and small, so there was quite a queue. We waited about half an hour before our group of 4 was seated. The place is also quite cramped, so it may not be the most comfortable dining experience. Food was served quite promptly after we ordered, so shoutout to the staff for efficient service. Food was quite good. Our favourites were the salmon, wagyu, and the kakiage. The Chawanmushi and miso soup were rather salty.

I like the concept—who doesn’t enjoy Japanese hand rolls? And prices are also reasonable, but the ingredients and execution suggest that Onori is positioned more as an affordable, casual option. Using kani as a key ingredient in one roll says quite a lot. Some combinations are overly creative. The hotate with uni (paste) is topped with rice crackers, which add an unnecessary, tasteless crunch. The A5 wagyu did not taste like A5 to me either, with very little marbling. The tiny crispy garlic pieces added little flavour and distracted from the beef, which would be better with just a lighter dressing or wasabi. The fried ebi was more memorable, with a good contrast between the crunchy tempura and creamy mango salsa. However, the floss and angel-hair chilli added more distraction than anything substantial. The cawanmushi was probably the strongest item we had. The crab roe, shredded kani and tobiko worked well with the soft custard, although the raw spring onions were unnecessary. Overall, I like the concept, but the hand rolls would benefit from simpler combinations. If a topping or ingredient is too subtle to make an impact, it probably does not need to be there. Providing wasabi in a small container instead of sachets would also better suit the Japanese diner setting.

We love the extensive menu of handrolls here. From basics like crabstick tempura, our all time favourite smoked marinated egg, to premium seafood range like scallops, yellowtail, snow crab and they even have A5 wagyu. We enjoyed everything we ordered, raw items were fresh, fried ones were crispy and not overly oily while torched ones were nice and smokey. With the extra plastic sleeves acting as a barrier, the seaweed of every handroll is kept fresh, dry and crisp just before eating it. The place is popular and queue continues throughout lunch time. The shop is rather cramp and there is barely a comfortable distance in between tables. Seats are quite limited too.

The foods is suprisingly good, environment very clean, open kitchen concept can see the staff handling foods with precautions. They’re very prompt. Dinner time can be a bit crowded. Just B2 location a bit hard to find. Overall is good. 👍🏻

I really like the food here, so it’s a shame that they were missing some details. 1) Drinks (like water and cold tea) that are usually served free-flow in similar price tier stores are non-refillable. This was quite surprising as they are selling salty food… 2) Seats are very cramped. Table seats are way too close to each other, and don’t even get me started on the counters… Don’t come alone, because they will seat you there even if the tables are open. I think all in all point 1&2 showed me that the establishment is focused on getting people out as fast as they can. Which I get, since they probably need more customers to pay and go, but it wasn’t a relaxing atmosphere at all, so I think the price is not justified. Also I was sat close to a heating thing at the counter seat and it was very warm. All in all, I wish they would make the space more calm and relaxing, especially at the price tier, so we can actually enjoy the food since it is good!
