Super authentic Indonesian food. Bakmie was great, got that steotypical Indonesian flavoring, and clearly made by cottage industry. The beef ball soup looks super homemade too. Could eat this every day. Not a Michelin style restaurant, but not every place needs to aim for that. Making good authentic food without cutting corners, nothing fancy. That's enough.

I recently revisited Jtown Cafe a few times after meals nearby, mainly to tabao their martabak, which is honestly quite close to what you’d get in Jakarta. Their bakmi ayam has improved a lot compared to many years back, when I remembered the noodles being drier and clumpy. This time, none of that. The sauce reminded me of mie ayam abang-abang from East Java, with that distinctive savoury aroma from the spices. The noodles were slightly undercooked, but thankfully I like mine firm and springy, so it worked for me. Their martabak manis is still the main draw. We’ve had the Special ovoPOP and Keju a few times now, always takeaway. The ovoPOP has a nice crunch from the cornflakes, while the cheese one gives that sweet, buttery-savoury hit that makes martabak so satisfying. Only miss so far was the batagor — found it too hard and difficult to chew.

Food Review: FYP Cafe — The Gen-Z Glamping Escape Hiding in Orchard Central Finding an affordable aesthetic cafe along Orchard Road that actually serves good food is usually like searching for a needle in a haystack. Most places look great for the 'gram but leave your wallet empty and your stomach disappointed. Enter FYP Cafe, a cozy, glamping-themed spot hidden away in Orchard Central that manages to buck the trend. With camping chairs, picnic tables, and a relaxed, unpretentious vibe, it’s the perfect place to hide from the weekend shopping crowds. But does the food match the cool aesthetic? Here is our honest breakdown. 🍝 The Mains Tom Yam Seafood Pasta ($22.00) Rating: 4.5/5 This is the undisputed star of the show. Fusion pasta can be a risky gamble—it’s often either too watery or completely lacks that authentic Thai kick. FYP hits the sweet spot perfectly. The sauce is incredibly fragrant, addictive, and packs just enough punchy tom yam heat without being overwhelmingly heavy. The pasta is tossed with a generous portion of fresh seafood that actually tastes sweet and clean. It’s an absolute must-order. Smoked Salmon Carbonara ($20.90) Rating: 4/5 If you prefer classic comfort food, this is a massive crowd-pleaser. The portion size is surprisingly generous for Orchard standards. It’s rich, deeply savory, and topped with a liberal serving of smoked salmon. Our only critique is that it leans on the heavier side; while the first few bites are pure bliss, it can get a little gelat (cloying) towards the end. Pro-tip: share this one with a friend. 🍟 Sides & Drinks Mentaiko Tater Tots ($14.00) Rating: 4/5 You can’t visit FYP without trying something from their extensive mentaiko menu. The tater tots arrive golden and incredibly crispy. They don't skimp on the mentaiko sauce either—it's torched beautifully to add a smoky, umami depth. The only minor drawback is that the sauce tends to sit heavily on the top layer, leaving the bottom tots a little bare, so make sure to toss them around! Strawberry Matcha Latte ($8.00) Rating: 4.2/5 Matcha can be incredibly hit-or-miss, but this layered creation is brilliant. It balances the earthy, slightly bitter notes of well-prepared matcha with a fresh, fruity sweetness from actual strawberry chunks at the bottom. It’s light, refreshing, and thankfully avoids being a pure sugar bomb.

Indonesian Food options, amazing wide variety that will cater to every palette. The mains are filling and the drinks options and taste are great. I tried myself, bakmie ayam lada hitam which has its concentration to blackpepper, what is interesting is that the chicken taste like beef? But make no mistake it is full of flavour still. Highly recommend for people looking to eat some Indonesian cuisine.
