Food quality and variety - extensive, well-stocked, and fresh ingredient selection, particularly the noodles and stuffed fishcakes. Versions - They've got both the soup and dry versions of Mala @@ Soup Base: The Mala soup is rich, beef-bone-based, and balanced rather than overwhelmingly spicy. The mild option here is very mild; good for first-timers. The spiciest Mala level is also not crazy high like other Mala places. Service & Atmosphere: Clean, bright, and, despite being busy, efficiently managed. Friendly staff. Price: Priced around $3.08/100g (as of Jan 2026, min 300g), which some consider reasonable for the quality, though not the cheapest option available. Key Evidence: "Best thing about this place is that they dont charge extra for the sauce base like most mala places. Also, while slightly more expensive than some competitors because they add tax, the quality and variety of the ingredients are generally considered superior. Customer Service: Excellent. Fast. They double-cling wrap takeaway containers to prevent spillage. Vs. Bugis/Other Branches: A better-managed outlet compared to other busier, more chaotic branches, even when managed by a small team. Vs. Gong Yuan Mala Tang: Superior with a thicker,, creamier soup base and better, more varied condiment station (esp. crunchy peanuts and sesame sauce).
View on GoogleI came here expecting a meal, but apparently I also signed up for a live magic show—specifically, “The Disappearing Beef.” I carefully picked what looked like a decent portion of large, lean slices, only to watch them return from the kitchen as a much smaller, more “minimalist” interpretation of what I had selected. Now, I fully understand that food shrinks when cooked—but in my personal experience, this went beyond normal shrinkage and into the realm of culinary illusion. Impressive, if that was the goal. As for the taste, it was… fine. Not bad, not great—just very much in line with countless other similar spots, except those didn’t leave me wondering if part of my order took an early exit. Given the pricing, I personally expected something that stood out a bit more, either in portion, quality, or overall experience. All things considered, it wasn’t terrible—just underwhelming and a bit puzzling. Unfortunately for me, there are plenty of other places offering the same concept without the added mystery, so I probably won’t be returning.
View on GoogleStandard but okay interiors. Interesting aspect is the mild option here is really really mild. For those who can’t handle spice and fearing to try Mala, this is the place. Try the mild version and you will be able to handle it. The maximum Mala option was also not punishing like other Mala hotpot places. Food is fine. Not bad to visit again. But not the best Mala hotpot. Service is standard. Price is similar to other Mala hotpot’s.
View on GoogleNice, clean place that we went to for dinner- was fully packed but a table cleared up as soon as we came. Like how you can choose the ingredients yourself, and that the shelves of ingredients are kept clean. However I do feel apprehensive mixing the tongs with the raw meat and vegetables, maybe they should have separate tongs for the raw meat for hygiene concerns, but its all going to be cooked anyway. Tried their normal spicy hotpot, they have soup and dry versions, so you can try them and they come in large bowls. There is also a complimentary condiments counter with spring onions, crushed peanuts, oyster sauce, coriander leaves, sesame paste, and others that you can make your sauce with the ingredients. Ingredients do taste fresh, mala flavour is alright - more mild than i expected. We chose xiao la (small spicy) and it was pretty bearable. Would come again to try the different soups, wish they gave more rice as the bowl is quite small.
View on GoogleI was craving for some Zhang Liang yesterday so I decided to go down to the Novena outlet with my friend at around 12 yesterday. It was my first time at this outlet, nothing unusual. However, from 4pm to right now, the next day, I am experiencing a terrible stomachache. The stomachache is excruciating. I hope that y’all can check on the freshness of the food as my friend is also experiencing the same thing as me.
