Overpriced and poor price transparency My elderly mother, who is visiting Singapore, ordered a takeaway steamed fish dish and was charged S$75. She was not informed of the price beforehand and did not receive a receipt. As a visitor unfamiliar with local pricing and ordering practices, she assumed the dish would be reasonably priced and only realized the amount when payment was requested. While the fish was tasty, I believe customers, especially elderly patrons and tourists, should be clearly informed when seafood is charged by weight or when the price may be significantly higher than expected. Providing a receipt and confirming the price before preparation would help avoid misunderstandings. I hope the restaurant can improve price transparency so customers can make informed decisions before ordering. And to think $75 for a single fish?
View on GoogleI saw recommendations on hardwarezone to try the beef kway teow and salted vegetable duck soup here, but there were recommendations from the covid era. Finally came down to try, and other than those 2 items, we also for the har cheong gai and sambal kang kong. The har cheong gai was the best dish today. I liked how crispy and flavorful the exterior batter was, and this might be the best har cheong gai exterior that I have ever eaten. The beef kway teow was not warm and served, which was really disappointing. Sambal kang kong was normal. The salted vegetable duck soup would probably have tasted nicer if it was hotter and more sour. Please also note they don't have a menu for this place other than what is on their signboard; you will need to check with the staff who might be a little rude. Based on my visit, I can only recommend the har cheong gai. It is not likely that I will revisit.
View on GoogleCame here specifically for the beef noodle because of a craving. The other dish worth eating here was the prawn paste chicken. Nothing to speak of this coffee shop which was old, torn and tattered. No other stalls were opened in the evening so you’re stuck with the Zichar stall. The small plate of beef noodle was $6. Beef was tender, black bean sauce was umami and the accompanying green chilli was not too sourish nor spicy, just prefect.
View on GoogleCame here for the beef hor fun and their prawn paste chicken and they did not disappoint!! The beef hor fun was very homely and comforting; the basic $5 portion is decently portioned but you can upsize to get a bigger portion. Their prawn paste chicken was really good and crunchy as well!! The chicken pieces they use are not the usual wings and drumsticks only but it also included random chicken parts. Very secluded kopitiam hidden in balestier and there was barely a crowd too(:
View on Googlevery delicious and cheap! $5 Hokkien Mee, $6 sweet and sour pork rice/egg gravy beehoon/ Stir Fry Pork Rice. Food taste very homely, Hokkien Mee may taste a bit salty.
