Having worked my way through a fair number of Singapore's Fish Head Steamboat heavyweights, I'd place Whampoa Keng comfortably above Nan Hwa Chang, but still a notch below Queen of Wok. There are certainly many other good ones around, but these three seem to be the names that come up most often whenever fish head steamboat is mentioned. The Batang was fresh, firm and held together beautifully despite simmering in the broth. It had that clean natural sweetness you want from good fish, without any muddiness. The broth was satisfying — milky from hours of boiling, naturally sweet from the cabbage, fish & pork bones and vegetables, with enough depth to keep you reaching for another bowl. Compared to Queen of Wok though, it lacked that final gear. Queen's broth is richer and more robust, thanks largely to its heavier use of fried dried sole fish, giving it a deeper umami backbone. Whampoa Keng's version is lighter, cleaner and a little more restrained. The Prawn Rolls were crisp, well-seasoned and generously filled. The Food Street Tofu was another highlight — silky tofu topped with plenty of crab meat, all soaking up a savoury, comforting sauce. Service was efficient despite the crowd, and the ingredients were fresh across the board. Would I return? Without hesitation. It doesn't claim the top spot, but it's still an excellent fish head steamboat and comfortably deserves its place among Singapore's best-known names. A solid 3.5/5 stars.

Have a dinner in this restaurant with friends and family. Didn't expect so kuch people waiting when we arrived at 8pm. Although we have a booking at 8pm, table is not ready yet. Have a short wait only. The food taste great. Especially the salted fish pork belly. The fish head pot taste great too. By far was a very satisfying dinner.

Family dinner and I really enjoyed it. Food came lightning fast with attentive staffs. The fish soup steamboat is the star of the show - its soup is gentle and sweet , and we had 3-4 rounds of review. The others dishes are all okay - reasonably priced and within excepted zi car quality. I wlll be back for the steamboat.

Visited on a weekday night for dinner, reservation was made in advance. Enjoyed the food and the refill of the soup was appreciated. Noticed that the first two times were unprompted but you would have to request for more soup after on your own. Fish slices were fresh and the sides were also well fried. Not our first visit and won’t be our last any time soon (I hope!)

Visited Whampoa Kheng for their famous fish steamboat (鱼头炉) and overall it was a solid dining experience. The Fish Steamboat (charcoal) is definitely the highlight—the broth is incredibly tasty, flavorful, and has that deep, traditional soul to it. The fish was very fresh, and I love that they provide a soup refill service so you can enjoy the broth all the way to the end. We also ordered a variety of side dishes: • Har Cheong Gai (虾酱鸡) - Crispy and fragrant. • Prawn Rolls (虾枣), Hot Plate Tofu (铁板豆腐), and Foo Young Egg (芙蓉蛋). • Mango Fried Prawns (芒果炸虾) and Fermented Pork (南乳炸肉). • Sambal Kang Kong (Sambal 空心菜). Everything was delicious and met expectations — definitely no "踩雷" (disappointments) with the food! Service is where it gets a bit tricky. We noticed the lady boss (or perhaps a senior staff member) had an attitude that wasn't very impressive while taking our orders. It’s a bit ironic—you see it in many old-school restaurants where the bosses can be quite unfriendly even though you're there to support their business! On the bright side, the junior male staff were excellent. They were very attentive, polite, and provided great service throughout the night. It's really the younger team members who are keeping the hospitality standards up. Go for the food and the amazing soup. Just be prepared for some "old-school" boss attitude, but the junior staff will take good care of you!
