Chuan Yang Ji is easily one of my go to spots for lamb hotpot and it never disappoints. The double flavoured lamb spine broth was comforting and naturally sweet, with a nice balance between the mild spice and herbal soup. The lamb was tender and generous for sharing, while the beef rolls and coriander lamb meatballs were just as satisfying. The spicy beef and tripe added a bold kick, and I liked having pu’er tea to balance the richness. Little touches like the self serve sauce station and complimentary dessert made the experience even better. Warm service and consistently good food make this a place I keep coming back to.

First time visiting and the staff recommended the hot pot. We chose the lamb collagen soup with grassland lamb rolls, sliced lamb shoulder, beef rolls, sliced chestnut pork neck, grilled lamb skewers, and fried spring onion pancake. The soup was tasty with no strong lamb smell. We especially enjoyed the pork neck and lamb skewers. The beef rolls were too fatty for our liking, but the staff apologised, explained it was seasonal, and removed the dish from our bill. We did have to wait quite a while for the meat to be served, probably because it was a busy night. The pancakes were too hard and dry. Despite that, the service was excellent and we’ll definitely be back.

This is my go to place for lunch set at least once a month now. Price is affordable, value for $ and food is yummy. Protip: You can book via Quandoo if having hotpot for additional cash back. For normal lunch set, they will not register your booking.

Visited for dinner and ordered the set, which was enough to cover most of the menu. The lamb spine hotpot stands out—rich, balanced, and consistent throughout the meal. We added extra lamb ribs; they were finished quickly, though they might benefit more from a grilled version, which is also available here. The menu is broad, including hotpot, small stir-fry dishes, and skewers, all with solid seasoning. One minor note: the tripe may not suit everyone. There’s complimentary ice cream and ice jelly; the latter works especially well with brown sugar. A place that feels complete in both range and execution

We were at Balestier and wanted to find a good lunch place, hotpot or steamboat, came across this restaurant. The staff lady was very friendly and pleasant, gave us good recommendations. We ordered the 2 pax’s steamboat set and added some skewers, they were delicious. You can added $2 to enjoy the sauces and ice cream. The dessert jelly was refreshing, cooling and great. We joined membership to get discount prices. There are parking available at the side road, not many though.
