Very enjoyable and delicious lunch at Royal Host Takashimaya which has a bright & inviting ambience. We particularly love the Pork Hamburg Steak with Cheese ($19.80) which was served sizzling on a hot plate with traditional Japanese sauces brown butter sauce. The Salmon & Mentaiko Cream Pasta ($20.80) was on point and very well prepared & layered with generous amount of Tobiko. The Clam Chowder soup ($4.50) was delightful even for someone like me who does not usually like clam dishes. We also added a serving of the Chicken Karaage with Truffle Fries which were freshly prepared too. What was a pleasant surprise was when we were invited to have complimentary refill of the Paradise Tea ($2.50) as part of their lunch set menu. If not for over eating, we would have love to add another dice of dessert at only $3. Service rendered by Connie and her other female colleague was awesome and we look forward to return again :) Thank you Royal Host for making our first visit a pleasant and enjoyable experience.
View on GoogleWe order the Pork Hamburg Steak topped with Cheese & Demi-Glace sauce. It was yumz - pork was tendered, flavourful & ernest. Clam chowder soup was wholesome- tasty and full of ingredients. We added parfait from the lunch set and it was not too sweet and I truly enjoyed it. Even the dripped coffee tasted legit. The price is very reasonable as we ordered the lunch set. Will want to try the paste next time 😋
View on GoogleStepping into Royal Host at Takashimaya S.C., one is immediately greeted by a bright, polished interpretation of Japan’s beloved family-restaurant heritage. The dining room balances contemporary elegance with unmistakable warmth—mirrored brass ceiling panels reflect globe pendants, warm blonde timber arches frame the booths, and verdant planters lend a welcoming, bustling ease. It captures the quintessence of yōshoku—Western-influenced Japanese cuisine refined over decades with meticulous care. Throughout the meal, the service staff were remarkably attentive, welcoming, and prompt, making the entire dining experience feel seamless and thoroughly enjoyable. The meal opens on a vibrant, refreshing note. The garden salad offers crisp bitter chicory, peppery leaves, sweet red pepper ribbons, and glossy bocconcini, crowned by earthy sautéed shimeji mushrooms dressed in a bright, aromatic vinaigrette. Alongside, the soups establish an immediate sense of homestyle comfort: a rich, velvety seafood bisque boasting sweet crustacean depth, and a silken, creamy chowder finished with a flourish of cream and freshly snipped herbs. The undisputed showstopper of the table is the braised beef cheek. Presented sizzling in a heavy ceramic cocotte, the beef undergoes a stunning transformation through patient, slow-braising. The connective tissues dissolve into pure silk, rendering the meat impeccably tender and extraordinarily juicy—giving way effortlessly at the gentlest tap of a fork. Coated in a glossy, umami-rich demi-glace carrying dark caramelised undertones, it is complemented brilliantly by tender-crisp greens, slow-roasted sweet onion, and a delicate potato gratin. It is a soulful, masterfully executed dish and an absolute must-order. For the mains, the tonkatsu curry offers classic comfort with a generous gravy boat of aromatic, spiced Japanese curry sauce, golden-fried panko-crusted pork cutlet, and sticky short-grain rice. The panko ramen with pork cutlet delivers clean, savoury brothy notes with blanched greens and chopped leeks; however, the fried cutlet submerged in the hot broth leans distinctly hearty and firm. For older diners or those who prefer melt-in-the-mouth textures, the density of the cutlet here might prove a touch too tough and chewy. Save room without hesitation for dessert, because the Hokkaido Mille Crêpe is worth every single calorie. Layers of whisper-thin, golden crêpes alternate with ethereal, cloud-like Hokkaido fresh cream that melts almost instantly on the tongue. Adorned with a candied pecan and served alongside glossy pools of rich, amber caramel sauce, the dessert manages to feel both intensely luxurious and impossibly light—a quintessential display of Japanese patisserie precision.
View on GoogleA surprisingly decent (if pricier than the original) famiresto experience in the heart of Orchard Road, serving their ersatz-western classics with flawless aplomb. Service is friendly without being overbearing, the food is good (if a little salty), and the vibes are on point. I had a wafu-sauce hamburg steak with a french onion soup starter and ice tea. The hamburg steak was pretty competently done - airy but structurally sound. The fries had a nice MacDonalds-esque textural heterogeneity. Wish the corn and broccoli had been piled on more generously, though - two florets is a bit stingy, to be honest. Wafu sauce was intensely savory, almost painfully so. French onion soup had a nice hint of bready crust, though the soup itself was a little thin. Shoutout to the iced tea, which was uncommonly fragrant.
View on GoogleHad a very satisfying meal at Royal Host @ Takashimaya S.C. — a great spot when you want comforting Japanese-Western classics in a relaxed setting. The omurice with demi-glace sauce was beautifully done. The eggs were soft, silky, and perfectly folded over the rice, soaking up that rich, savoury sauce. The mushrooms on top added a nice earthy depth that balanced the sweetness of the demi-glace. We also tried the mentaiko seafood pasta, which was creamy, well-seasoned, and not overly heavy. The mentaiko gave it a pleasant briny kick, while the seafood was fresh and cooked just right. The shredded nori on top added texture and aroma. Service was attentive and efficient, and the ambience is calm and comfortable — ideal for family meals or casual catch-ups after shopping. Reliable quality, generous portions, and consistent execution. Will definitely return.
