This is a pleasant surprise. The building itself was formerly Tao Nan School and has been beautifully and meticulously refurbished. The museum provides a good background of the Peranakan history and culture and hosts breathtaking exhibits including traditional and fusion costumes, jewelry and accessories, furniture, utensils and even a carriage. The pieces were gorgeous and the museum marvelously restored to host the impressive collection. Well worth a visit
View on GoogleThe Peranakan Museum offers a beautiful glimpse into the rich and unique culture of the Peranakan community. The exhibits are elegant and thoughtfully curated, with vibrant textiles, intricate jewelry, and everyday objects that reflect a fascinating blend of Chinese and Malay heritage. I was especially captivated by the famous beaded slippers and garments. These delicate pieces were traditionally handmade by Nyonya women, each tiny bead carefully stitched by hand with remarkable patience and skill. Seeing them instantly reminded me of the beaded shoes my daughter loved to wear when she was little — a small and unexpected connection across cultures and generations. It’s a charming and meaningful museum that allows visitors to appreciate the artistry, traditions, and lifestyle of the Peranakan world.
View on GoogleA wonderful place to experience and appreciate the rich Peranakan heritage and culture of Singapore. The museum is beautifully presented, with fascinating collections, intricate artefacts, traditional clothing, jewellery, and beautifully crafted displays. I especially enjoyed learning about the unique traditions, lifestyle, and history of the Peranakan community from Janice, the in-house tour guide. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated and make the experience both educational and enjoyable. A must-visit for anyone interested in Singapore’s history, culture, and heritage. Highly recommended!
View on GoogleAn absolute must visit. Hands down one of the best museums I have ever seen. The exhibition was mind blowing. For SGD18 it seemed like a steal. Such a fantastic museum showcasing some wonderful and beautiful Peranakan history.
View on GoogleEnjoyed the Armenian Street Party at the Peranakan Museum. Liked the freebies in the Old Chang Kee curry puff. The kebaya dress up was fun, very colorful and vibrant. I'd hoped my Queen would try, but she wasn't quite in the mood. Entered the Peranakan Museum, was admonished by the staff not to enter areas which were pay-gated. Not sure the hostility was warranted, simply informing me would have sufficed. The MediaCorp artistes were a little cringe. One of the main characters from the show they were promoting, was at the Buah Keluak demonstration and was asked 'what is your favorite Peranakan dish'. She responded that she had never had one!!!!!! What in the world??? Holy parachuted in from another country. And the Buah Keluak demonstration was delayed for her! Auntie Lee was ready and had to wait for 15-20 mins or so. Insert Trump ~Saaaad~ meme here.
