Tried the spicy squid from the Korean stall inside Koufu at SMU, and it was served piping hot on a sizzling plate. The portion was generous, with plenty of squid, onions and fresh chillies, all well coated in a rich, spicy and savoury sauce. The squid had a satisfying bite without being overly tough, while the onions added some natural sweetness to balance the heat. I also liked the toasted sesame seeds on top, which gave the dish extra aroma and texture. The sauce was bold and went especially well with rice. Overall, this was a flavourful and satisfying meal that I would gladly order again whenever I am craving something spicy at SMU.

Ordered green apple juice w/o ice at $4.80 for public price. TBH, it’s quite acceptable. However, the amount of water added is quite a lot for the size of the cup. Plus the cup she used for the apple juice was the one that captured the residual drips from the previous order hence there was a strong smell and taste of starfruit mixed in.

Beware of the japanese rice stall. I ordered a chicken teriyaki rice bowl. The rice was mushy and smelt off. After trying half a spoon of eating the rice the bad smell was definitely there. I'm guessing they used old rice or something went definitely wrong there. Poor quality and even serving food that has gone bad. Eat at your own risk.

Terrible, the quality has declined so much since Dec 2025 and prices went up. The economical rice portion is so tiny, they purposefully and knowingly give so little meat, veg and rice for around over 3 dollars for one meat and one veg. And most of their foods is premium so if you want more than two meat options expect to pay extra. Only one or two non premium meat options which are also tiny. The japanese place portions are also so tiny for being over 6-10. The indonesian food stall is also very expensive being over 10 dollars, the mie ayam soup tastes like saltwater, the food is not that good and I am saying this as someone who has lived in Indonesia for most my life. It is not worth it in my opinion The noodle stalls, both also taste horrible though prices are more okay. The mala only tastes spicy with nothing else, barely any flavor. The only, only good thing is thier coffee which I would actuallyr reccomend, kopi C peng kosong large for only $2 is actually worth it. Other than that nothing else. My recommendation is walking an extra 5 minutes to head to Bgain261 at waterloo which is much better or star kitchen in front of St Joseph's church for caifan, or Cathay for their mala which has a 20% student discount, it is actually good and prices are comparable and the space is also comfortable with free condiments. Another hawker centre is Bras Basah floor 1 with actually good caifan. Overall, koufu has good coffee at a reasonable price compared to other hawkers and that's just about it. Everything else, EVERYTHING ELSE better js go support a small hawker centre.

Having an exhibition at SMU over the weekend allowed my colleagues and I to try out the Koufu in the basement of SMU. A quick tour of the stalls available we decided on the Taiwan Cuisine stall. I ordered their signature Honey Chicken Chop with rice. The chicken was actually executed pretty well for a food court stall. The batter was crisp, with a tinch of honey while still retaining its savoury after tones from the seasoning. Adding a dash of chilli powder gave it more heat - a definite win. The chicken meat itself was still juicy too. Rice is your standard white rice, they added a little coleslaw on the side and a few slices of Taiwanese Sausage that were lightly cooked, BBQing a little bit more would have made it even better. Anyway, I would say having this was pretty good value though with a bowl of egg and seaweed soup.with added meat cost me $8.30, if I do get the chance to dine here again would definitely have another go at this.
