Would come here whenever I’ve got craving for Teochew porridge. Environment/Service - 3.5/5 There’s a nearby carpark across the road so it’s pretty convenient. Not much service needed/provided as it’s just order and serve. Food - 4/5 These are the few outstanding dishes that’s prepared well: 1) Cockles 2) Hae Bee Hiam 3) Cabbage Value - 3.5/5 This meal for 5 pax cost $72, definitely not the cheapest, but still acceptable as there’s a steamed fish. For the budget conscious customer, may want to skip ordering the fish ($28) for a more reasonable price.
View on GoogleReasonably priced, piping hot, and great quality Teochew-style porridge! I paid about $14.80 for a generous meal with a fish, braised pork, cabbage, pickled vegetables, and a bowl of porridge. They offer a wide variety of dishes that give you much better value compared to other food options nearby. The restaurant is clean, service is fast, and it’s even better value if you come in a group of 4 to share.
View on GoogleCelebrated Birthday here. Mmm mmm good!!! My favorite is Teochew Porridge with it's dishes. Love love love the Hae Bee Hiam (Spicy chopped up shrimp), I actually had 2 bowls of porridge. The Egg Otah; Fu Zhu (Tofu Skins/Sticks) in Delicious Soya Sauce, ginger & honey; Bitter Gourd with eggs; Fried Brinjal in Sauce; Steamed Pomfret (fish) are fantastic too, so full of flavor and go so well with the porridge.
View on GoogleThey’ve been on the block for a while now and their longevity is something admirable in this age. They no longer see queues the likes of their glory days and for good reason… while Singaporeans seek air-conditioning relentlessly, Heng Long’s old-world charm also prices itself a tad high on the market and (this evening) leaned a little heavily into salt. That said, I appreciated that the rice grains in the porridge were soft but still had some bite. The spread was as varied as they come. Such tasty grub, always fresh and ready to serve, is a sign that turnover is healthy. Try the spicy braised shark for its clever balance of spices or the leek fried with Beancurd for something milder with umami. Their egg dishes are a crowd pleaser; my favourite is the bitter gourd stir-fried with egg, with just the slightest hint of bitter so that we know it’s the real deal. I wasn’t happy with the cockles and clams pickled in soy sauce - way too salty for the shellfish to come through, fresh as they were. Still, that by no means broke the deal. All in all, our fulfilling meal for three came up to $39. Service was not the friendliest but was quick and accurate. Considering that our omnivorous choices had more veg than meat, it felt a little dear. But I’d much rather enjoy my comfort food in relative peace and bask in the authentic familiarity of tradition than fight the crowds and pay a premium for glorified, globalised commercialism.
View on GoogleLocal traditional Teochew porridge brand in old shophouse setting setup with charm of no frills dinning experience. Sitting outside the shop along side the road eating at their round marbled table. Lots of option from meat to vegetable to choose from to go with your porridge at 70 cents a bowl. We had braised duck , braised pork, tau pok, black bean minced meat, bitter gourd meat, chicken, egg roll, salted egg, garlic cockles, garlic baby squid, crunchy mermaid fish, peanut anchovies, vermicelli fried with sliced gourd. Some are hot dishes and some are cold. A bowl of hot braised soy sauce gravy to mix into your porridge. Spicy chilli sauce with vinegar condiment very good to dip your duck and pork into. If you need some soul food to cheer you up, if you feel you need lots of variety for a meal to brighten your day, some special delicacy like steam fish, cockles , baby squid, cold Teochew fish cakes, this is the place to go. Highly recommended for simple Teochew cuisine to pair with your porridge.
