Funny familiar, old fashion… as the song goes. Had the Orhnee (yam paste) with tangyuan balls, pulut Hitam ( black glutinous rice) with Tangyuan- it took me back to the good old days of honest to goodness Grandma’s style deserts - the Orhnee had that elusive sublet fried shallot taste, so so hard to find nowadays, coz no one really bothers to put in that much effort to slice shallots & carefully & patiently fry, stirring to prevent burning. Pulot Hitam was just right, not too sweet, smooth, just the right about of santan ( thick coconut milk). The mango sago wasn’t old school, but still nice. This place is small & cosy & sadly, maybe closing soon - ie in 5 months. Seems to me, the space is too small to garner enough sales to maintain itself. I’m definitely doing my part to help & try to keep this place going. It’s the place to go every-time you need an old school dessert fix.
View on GoogleThis used to be one of my favourite dessert places, so it was disappointing to return and have such a different experience. The entire place was almost silent not in a peaceful way, but in a rather depressing and melancholy atmosphere. Even the servers seemed quiet and unenthusiastic, which made the whole experience feel unwelcoming. The dessert was still decent, but the overall ambience and service have lost the warmth that made me enjoy coming here before. I hope they can bring back the lively and friendly atmosphere they once had. (This is also not AI Generated)
View on GoogleThis is currently our go-to spot for local desserts. The yuzu ice is especially refreshing—nicely balanced between sweet and tangy, so it doesn’t get jelak even after a few spoons. The mix of soft longan jelly and crunchy nata de coco adds a good contrast in texture. Another favourite is the mango sago pomelo. It comes with a really nice mango sorbet and a generous amount of those popping jelly balls, which make each bite more fun. Our son’s top pick is the snow ice—it melts quite slowly, which is a big plus. We even tabao once, and it still held its shape after about a 15-minute drive home. The snow ice is also very customisable. He usually goes for a Milo base, topped with milk, chocolate chips, and mini mochi—simple but very satisfying.
View on GoogleThe cafe has a really cozy vibe, quite a nice place to just sit and chill for a bit. The chairs are the wooden, harder type, not the cushioned kind, so maybe not the most comfortable for very long sitting, but still okay. The paste is nice and thick, not overly sweet, and quite satisfying to eat. It also comes with two small plain tang yuan, which was a nice little addition. The mango sago was also pleasantly thick, not diluted or watery, and the sweetness level was just right. Overall, the desserts were quite enjoyable and comforting.
View on GooglePassed by this place so many times… but today’s finally the day! After dinner at Katong Shopping Mall, we walked over for dessert. It was pretty chill, with customers coming in and out. We ordered the yuzu and tang yuan—m, both hit the spot 🍊✨ Definitely coming back to try more desserts next round!
