This is the best chicken rice in the world. Boon Tong Kee and many other Hainanese chicken rice stalls always undercook their chicken, leaving traces of blood, or overcook it until it's dry and tough. Katong Mei Wei gets it right every single time. The chicken is perfectly cooked, tender, juicy, and served chilled. I always order the upsized breast portion because it's more filling while still remaining incredibly tender. The savory sauce complements the chicken beautifully. Since it's quite salty, it's cleverly kept separate by a layer of cucumbers, so you can control how much sauce coats each bite. The lotus peanut soup is absolutely godly. Look at the colour. It's rich, fragrant, and perfectly balanced—easily one of the best I've had. I'd even rate it far above the one at Lao Huo Tang, which I find overly sweet and salty despite being a shop that specializes in soups. One note: Katong Mei Wei Chicken Rice also have an outlet at East Village, but unfortunately the standard isn't the same. The rice is too yellow, the soup is noticeably saltier, and even the chicken sauce is saltier than at the original outlet. For the best experience, I'd recommend visiting the original Katong Mei Wei instead.

One of the most expensive chicken rice out there. Ordered two portion at $15.10 plus small salted fish bean spourt for $6.30. Normal plate of chicken rice starts from $7.70. wow Chicken: good Achar: good Soup: excellent Bean spourt: great Condiments: great Amount for money: okay Chicken was mixed some tender some a bit tough but due to the amount of gravy it wasn't dry. Gravy also helps with taste of chicken as well. Achar came in big portion. Most vege that comes with chicken rice tbh. Nothing much beside it is not much processed nor chili added, quite thai style. Soup was great with the natural sweetness of the cabbage. Portion was huge and with boiled chicken. Bean spourt with salted fish taste unique but do stir it before taking your first bite due to the salted fish. Nevertheless the salted fish dust brings a savoury dimension to the cruchy douge. Chili was average chicken rice chili maybe on the milder side but it is definite a level up due to the garlic. Amount to the cost i feel it was okay. While the cost is much higher the achar and soup they gave is like a dish of its own. Although i am not sure if it is due to close to closing time or this is the usual amount.

Look this is a sad case of becoming “Too Big for their Boots”. In my 30s this year and this chicken rice with the free bowl of hot soup + purple plates were etched into my childhood brain. Service is what it is, you know when you’re coming up to the auntie who takes 100 orders a day that it’s going to be straightforward and you better come prepared. I got upsold on the oyster sauce veg but managed to get boneless (So a win I guess?) Honestly should have known that something was up when there was no queue and I got my food immediately at peak dinner hr on Sat. Rice was dry and broke apart, chilli didn’t taste fresh, braised egg looked like it was braised and toughened over 2 days and the chicken was chilled in the traditional style but was tough and almost impossible to break apart. Shocking drop in standards and I haven’t even covered how the soup recipe has completely changed, the abalone slices relegated to the upsold Veg dish instead. I’m going to be frank, if you knew their standards in the old days then don’t expect the same now.

Returned after what must be at least a decade, and happy to say the chicken rice still tastes as good as I remembered 😋🐔🍚 Used to be one of my favourite spots back then, and the food remains very satisfying. The achar and soup were especially enjoyable and complemented the meal well 👍 Price is slightly on the high side, but considering the taste and quality, still worth it overall. The main downside was the cleanliness of the dining area. Several tables were dirty or stained, and there was noticeable litter on the floor that had not been swept. Definitely an area that could be improved. Overall, still a solid plate of chicken rice and a place worth revisiting for the food.

❤️ More food sharing IG @ jkgourmets 😋 更多的美食分享在 IG @ jkgourmets Honestly, I have been hearing lots of news from this famous popular chicken rice stall hidden inside this classic mall. I really appreciate how beautiful the plating is, and it does attract me to give a serious honest tasting for this wonderful chicken rice. Yes. First attraction, was the very unique yellow rice, is fat, yet soft fully cooked rice, not that heavy taste of garlic or ginger nor turmeric (if that is the cause of yellowish rice). So far so good. Next, the beautiful chopped chicken meat, pouring with lots of fried garlic and onions maybe. Chicken meat was very soft, or probably too soft for my preference. Overall, the chicken meat was tasty, sweet and flavourful. Good. Not bad. Next, the unusual side dishes, archar vegetables, honestly, that surprise me, it was very fresh and delicious, especially the pineapple and cucumber, chucky yet juicy, very well marinated. Best complement for the chicken rice. Well done. Lastly, the chicken soup, sweet and full of chicken stock flavours, with the chopped cabbages, it was best ending soup. Satisfying all rounded combination. 4 items helping each others, without anyone of that, it probably not that attractive as it is nowadays. If you are looking for slightly unconventional chicken rice, I do highly recommended you to try it. Worth a visit definitely.
