Latest update: 6th March I returned a few times after my first rating. The spiciness of the chilli has been toned down (or maybe my taste bud was off in January) and I could now taste the coconut in my rice, and though not at the level I would have preferred. Rating upgraded to 4 stars. Last review: Jan 2023 Heard so much about this place and I decided to go down on a Sunday to get our fix of Malaysian style, nasi lemak and one that is based on the famous Village Nasi Lemak in Uptown Damansara in KL/Selangor. The queue system is good. Rather than waiting in super long queue for food, every customer is given a buzzer to inform when food is ready for collection. This system prevents long queue from forming as each order can take 20 minutes to be completed. As for parking, I recommend customers to park at the public car park across the road which is super convenient. On the food itself, I love the chicken. It’s fried to perfection, with the right amount of spices to give it a very flavourful punch. It taste so good by itself and the rice without the need for the accompanying sambal (more on this below). The size of the chicken is sizeable given the price paid (SGD9.20 per pack), and the Nasi lemak also comes with one egg, and the normal condiments like cucumber and anchovies with peanuts. Now, typically the essence of Nasi lemak are the rice and the sambal but it is not for this place. The rice is not the lemak/coconut-y type that you’d except of. It is lightly flavoured with the coconut base. On the other hand the sambal is not the sweet and mild chilli paste that we usually wallop in abundance in our typical Nasi lemak. Over here, it’s super spicy and rather oiler (in my opinion, it’s excessive on both aspect). Hence my earlier comment above about savouring the fried chicken without the sambal. Overall, I’d give this a 3.5 star as I would have preferred to have a sweeter/milder sambal with more fragrant rice.

Chicken thigh is juicy yet Crunchy on outside. n crumbs given is reminiscent of Long Johns Silver vibes nice touch. Rice is aromatic n pleasant but not Basmati rice like ChangiV. Sambal is ok. Ikan bilis is on point. Legendary Changi Village Nasi Pemak Maciks still holds the Crown for my taste buds. Particularly Mizzy. Pleasantly surprised by food quality but the $10 price tag more or less balanced it off. 10$ for a Nasi Lemak is on a high side VS Changi V. crisscut cucumbers have diff twist to it than this typical cut somehow. VS the Chongpang Nasi lemak at Tanjong Katong? This is made more with more love n TLC. Not cheap there either. The Real chong pang nasi lemak at yishun? Nah this is way better. 5mins queue time on a Saturday 230pm Recept ladies were pleasant too which makes or break any food taste.

Heard good things about the nasi lemak here and made a trip down. There are no seats so if you dine in, you’ll need to stand and eat. It’s a little cramped inside since there’ll be people waiting for takeaways as well. Ordered takeaway boneless chicken and one with drumstick. Total around $19. Journey home took 45 mins but the rice was still nice and warm. Nasi lemak is good. Fluffy and a little hard but fragrant. Easy to eat. Love the chicken seasoning and of course, the chilli packs a punch and elevates the food. Would return but sadly, this outlet will be rebranded and no longer sell nasi lemak.

The hype of the town. Commonly featured among YouTubers, and in particular by one Taiwanese YouTuber who term this the most favourite nasi lemak of hers in Singapore. Not sure if the hype eventually leads to a mismatch in expectation. Let’s break it down: The pros: 1. Fluffy and subtly fragrant rice that doesn’t overkill. I love it. 2. Generous portion of sambal in a separate tub 3. High ratio of ikan bilis to peanuts (usually stalls will have more peanuts instead to save cost) The cons: 1. We ordered the ayam goreng berempah chicken leg and boneless chicken thigh, as well as beef rendang. The texture of the chicken was confusing. It looks crispy, but isn’t. In fact, it was pretty dry and hard to chew. We ate the chicken at the stand up table within minute of its arrival, so there’s no way it could have been due to moisture in the enclosed box that caused it to lose its crispiness. The rendang was a little tough as well. Our direct comparison was the popular muslim stall down the road we had the week before, and the ones here pale in comparison 2. Sambal was too sweet and the spiciness got lost in that. Some YouTubers were saying that the sweetness comes from the onions but onions without sugar doesn’t taste sweet In short, love the rice, but the chickens, beef and sambal could be better.

Fabulous Nasi Lemak. Every component of this was spot-on. The rice had the perfect amount of coconut body and fragrance while remaining light. The sambal was flavoursome and while erring on the sweet side, had a mild spicy kick. And the chicken...goodness me. Imagine the best ever Malay-style fried Turmeric chicken. That's what this was. The skin crust was divine and the meat was moist and well a seasoned. A total winner. The closest competitor to this is Coconut Club at Frankel Avenue...but Dickson beats it straight down on price while keeping that high level of quality. The guy at the counter too is a really nice dude. 😀
