As a Malaysian in Singapore, I am very critical when it comes to Nasi Lemak. Sure, just like the Malaysians, any hot blooded Singaporean will claim their Nasi Lemak is the best. Now getting back to Punggol Nasi Lemak, I must say it is not bad. The rice felt like the real deal. I had Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah Chicken and the chicken was well marinated and fried, giving a crispy skin texture and soft, tasty meat. It came with fried anchovies and peanuts on the side, sunny side up egg and one lonely single slice of cucumber. I don’t know about the rest but I always prefer the egg in Nasi Lemak to be hard boiled but they did not have that option in this place. Then, there was a small amount of sambal provided. The sambal is an important component that makes a Nasi Lemak a proper Nasi Lemak. It had the right level of spiciness and sweetness and passed the taste test. However, as a Nasi Lemak lover, it was too little and I have this phobia of asking more in Singapore because I was afraid of getting scolded by the old aunties behind the counter🫣. Overall, authentic taste and I give this place a respectable 4 star because Malaysian Nasi Lemak is a step higher. Hey, I am not biased but Nasi Lemak IS the most popular breakfast option in Malaysia whereas in Singapore it is not 😊
View on GoogleOrdered online for pick up. I was flabbergasted to find that the $5.30 ikan bilis and peanuts was all that there was in that tiny box! I don’t know what has the world come to. Otherwise, all other dishes are generally up to ponggol nasi lemak standards, you’d be better off skipping the ikan bilis scam.
View on GoogleGreat Ponggol Nasi Lemak outlet. Air conditioned. Set up like a fast food restaurant. Had to wait for the premium otah, but the rest of the food was quiet fast.
View on GoogleNice nasi lemak and aircon environment is great. The place is clean but noise level tends to be higher during lunch time.
View on GoogleChildhood memories since eating their branch at Kovan Road 30 years ago. Their Chicken wings are my favourite simply because their turnover is so high. You literally eat the wings out from the oil the entire time I was there. Chilli sambal is just nice and the coconut rice is fragrant. The other sides are mixed in terms of taste.
