Review of Four Heavenly Kings This place used to be Café Monochrome just a few months ago, and it has since been taken over by this Hong Kong roasted meat shop. I call it a “shop” because its setup doesn’t quite qualify as a restaurant. I was initially curious to see if the name “Four Heavenly Kings” lived up to any sort of “four gems” in terms of food. Arriving early in the morning, I was surprised to find that there was nothing particularly impressive on display—unlike other Hong Kong roasted meat places that usually showcase their offerings proudly. I wanted to order the Irish duck but was told I had to purchase at least half a duck, priced at $44 (before GST). That’s a price you’d expect at a high-end restaurant, not at a casual setup like this. Just because it was featured by Ho Jiak Bo doesn’t justify such an exorbitant markup. I’d be crazy to pay that here. Since I was already there, I decided not to leave empty-handed and ordered two portions of roast chicken instead. The chicken looked overly dry—and I was spot on. It lacked the juicy tenderness that good roast chicken should have. The chicken fragrant rice was acceptable but nowhere near the standard of Tiong Bahru chicken rice. The roast pork, on the other hand, was the clear highlight—very crunchy and well-roasted. However, as many customers have pointed out, it came with far too much fat. That’s all I tried, and honestly, I’m definitely skipping the Irish duck!

Excited to try out this highly rated roast delight shop, but was disappointed the moment we entered and saw that diners could get a free drink with a review.. Expectations immediately lowered and was rather surprised to see what was charged after i ordered. Given that there’s no roast pork and charsiew noodles on the menu, we ordered via the staff, and wasn’t told there’s a $3 extra charge - it’s probably on me as well to not clarify when paying. The meal was definitely steep as compared, since it’s a standalone restaurant with air-conditioning. 🍝 the noodles were great though, definitely enjoyed that the most amongst everything 🥓 charsiew was the better of the two roast meat to me, roast pork was slightly too fatty but did had a good crisp, while the char siew had some char which i liked It was tough to rate between 3 or 4 stars but made simple since there’s a free drink for review which i detest - 70/100 in general.

Roast meats place tucked away at Syed Alwi Road. The star is the roast duck, which uses silver hill ducks that are fattier than normal ducks. Not good for your cholesterol levels but fantastic for your taste buds. The roast meat or sio bah is made from Iberico pork which is also fattier than normal cuts. All these adds up to a fantastic meal that's probably not the best in terms of your health but tastes excellent. The roast chicken has crispy skin as well. Even the dumplings soup was excellent, if not a tad oily. Not something you'll eat daily for health reasons but you'll definitely return because of how good it all tastes, especially the duck

Comfortable roast meat restaurant with air conditioning - open late till the night on a very interesting street. The duck here is the star, with a very delicious herbal profile. Chicken rice was perfectly done, and so was the noodles as well. Condiments was fresh and well prepared. Will be back!
