This place was slightly hard to find. Because I was looking for Chapter One, and walked past The Hainan Story! Once I realised the full name, it's dead easy, next to the bus stop. Read reviews that the 1.80 promo you don't get much chicken. So added a drumstick for a dollar. When it came, reaction was c'mon! Guess they replaced the breast meat with four slices of drumstick. Plus service charge it was 3.35. One leaves hungry, but I guess one gets what one pays for. What little there was, was good. The rice was good, and portion was small too. Atmosphere was quite nice, I didn't at all encounter a rude wait staff as mentioned by some reviews. Would I could again? The regular priced items are rather what you might get at coffeeshops at higher prices, and the reviews I see don't seem to make them anything to write home about, so it's at best a maybe if one wants air con comfort and table service. Otherwise, the fact that I went round looking for something light to eat, shows, no, this lunch was far from filling.
View on GoogleCame here today for lunch and tried the steam chicken rice. Apparently they are having NDP $6.10 promo so I suggest you should make use of it and try the other dishes the next round. Was rather surprise that the chicken was from Wee Nam Kee. Hope to try the infamous curry chicken rice. The odeh cake is yummy. Protip: Can sign up for membership to enjoy it's privilege.
View on GoogleOrdered the promo $1.80 chicken rice. Small portion of meat. I even added $1 of roast pork but only came with 4 tiny slices, which was hard and dry. Steamed chicken meat was tender though. I also added on a plate of hainanese vegetables. The order did not come immediately. I have to repeat and ask the waitress three times before it was finally served to me. Butter cake. I came with high hopes after reading Dr Leslie (ieatishootipost) has a collab x Hainan Story to sell his butter cake here which is known for its premium ingredients so that it will produce a rich yellow and buttery taste. But what they served me is just a unevenly (dense at the bottom which can be seen from 2nd photo) pale yellow cake which doesn't even look appetising. As I left to pay at counter. I saw their cake display case which was frosted-till-you-cannot-see-anything, which makes the whole experience very unpleasant. Unlikely I will visit again.
View on GoogleThe food is pretty good. What stood out to me is the satay with pineapple sambal sauce. It is very unique and I've never had satay with that sauce before. As for the pork broth soup, that is definitely a winner! I'd order if I eat here again!
View on GoogleThis was a great place to find for breakfast and lunch. The food comes relatively quickly, but you can tell its freshly made. The coffee and tea is nice ans you can edit the sugar and ice level. We've tried a few of their dishes and our personal favourites are the kaya crispy toast and the pumpkin porridge. It's not that expensive either, you can definitely get a good breakfast meal with around 10$ and the kaya sets are around 5$.
