Yuan Xing Chaozhou Restaurant offers a decent dining experience, but the food didn’t stand out as anything particularly special. The dishes were okay and enjoyable enough, though they lacked a memorable or distinctive flavour. The restaurant itself was quite quiet for a Sunday evening, which felt a little unusual, possibly due to the school holiday period. While the calm atmosphere made for a relaxed meal, overall it’s a place that’s fine to visit, but not one I would go out of my way to return to.
View on GoogleTraditional Teochew dishes in suitably traditional setting. Heritage ethnic cuisine increasingly lost to globalization. Recommend their pig trotter jelly, liver roll and fried kway teow with preserved radish. Goose meat and yam paste could be better. Certain dishes like suckling pig etc need prior reservation. Service was exceptional.
View on GoogleDate of visit : Tue 28 Jan 2025 Time : 7.45 pm Came here again this time to try their CNY dinner menu. Ordered the menu A way back in Nov 2024 priced at $728 normally for 10 pax. 13 of us, we were asked to top up $100. No service charge only GST and add $15 tea charge. We were shown promptly to our table. Not all the chairs nor the cutlery were for 13 pax but quickly sorted out. Everything is generally good. Service too despite the crowd. The lohei is slightly too sweet. The fish maw soup is lacking in other ingredients. Date of visit : Wed 27 Mar 2024 Time : 12 noon Made a prior booking for 5. May not be necessary as it’s not crowded. First time here. Ordered a few typical Teochew dishes : platter entrée 5 types, braised goose meat, braised sea cucumber, mixed vegetables delight, fried kai lan kway teow and finally the yam paste dessert. Everything is good except maybe for the goose meat where the sauce is not fragrant and a bit sweet. The yam paste is nice and not too oily nor too sweet.
View on GoogleFirst time here at this small cozy authentic teochew restaurant. Noticed all the staff here are prcs and dinner here during CNY is pretty rushed and food served quickly. There were people outside waiting for our table as we were digging into the noodles which was the 2nd last dish. Chilled pork knuckle, braised goose, steamed pomfret and orh ni yam paste dessert are quite good, the fish maw soup rather bland and the rest are pretty average.
View on GoogleAuthentic teochew cuisine from this restaurant. Located at the ground level of HDB flat, small setup and thus, would advise to place a reservation for a table. Extremely helpful serving staff, always there whenever you need something extra like Chilli Sauce/water. We had Braised Goose meat which is rather rare, nicely done and very flavourful. Oyster omelette done to perfection, yummy. Prawn balls is one of their specialty, very tasty. Braised pork with bun is another classic dish which all of us thoroughly enjoyed. The finale is the Orh Nee dessert which is not too sweet and nice texture. Would recommend.
