White House Teochew Porridge/白家潮州糜 was originally established in 1997 as Soon Soon Teochew Porridge. It first operated at Simon Road before relocating to Kovan in 2007. After the business was sold in 2018, the original family opened a new shop at its current Serangoon Road location under the name White House Teochew Porridge/ 白家潮州糜, now run by the first & second generations. 🥢 1st Plate – Braised Duck/Lor Ark & Braised Pork Belly/Kong Bak The braised duck is tender, while the pork belly has a great balance of fat & lean meat. It’s soft, juicy, & almost melts in your mouth without feeling too greasy. The braising gravy is rich & fragrant, but not overly salty. Spoon it over a bowl of plain Teochew porridge or plain rice & it’s pure comfort food. 🌶 2nd Plate – Hae Bee Hiam/Dried Shrimp Sambal The Hae Bee Hiam is loaded with savoury dried shrimp flavour, with a nice balance of sweetness & saltiness. Surprisingly, it’s only mildly spicy, so even those who can’t handle spice should be fine. Personally, I wish it had a stronger kick. Squeeze the whole calamansi over it - the citrus really cuts through the richness & makes the flavours pop. 🐟 3rd Plate – Otah The otah comes in thick, chunky pieces & is packed with generous chunks of mackerel. Meaty, flavourful, & very satisfying. 🐠 4th Plate – Black Bean Fried Fish Head/Ngor He (Threadfin) The fish head is deep fried until crispy on the outside while staying moist & gelatinous inside. The black bean sauce, cooked with garlic & ginger, is rich, savoury, & full of umami. The vegetables were simple but nicely cooked - the kind of comforting dishes that go perfectly with Teochew porridge. Our meal came to about S$80+. It’s not cheap compared to zi char, but I personally think the quality is much better than Heng Long. If you’re a Teochew porridge lover, this place is definitely worth checking out.
View on GoogleVisited White House Teochew Porridge for a simple and comforting meal. There was a reasonable selection of dishes, although most tasted quite ordinary compared with other Teochew porridge places we have tried. The black sauce was surprisingly sweet rather than savoury, which may not suit everyone’s preference. One thing that could be improved is the pricing transparency, as the price of each dish was not clearly displayed—making the final bill feel like a little mystery. 🤔 Overall, it is still a decent place for a quick Teochew porridge meal, but clearer prices and more distinctive flavours would make the dining experience better.
View on GoogleA local colleague took us to this old-school Teochew porridge place that’s been around since the 90s. I love these kinds of places, simple, honest food done well. 👍🏼The porridge was just right, not watery, not too thick. I had two bowls. We ordered their famous braised duck, dried shrimp, squid, fried egg, some veggies, and my husband's favorite, salted duck egg. The duck was really good. They even said you can pre-order a whole one for Lunar New Year, which sounds perfect for a family meal. The chili garlic on the table went with everything. Definitely coming back for that duck.🤩
View on GoogleWhite House Teochew Porridge is one of those rare places that reminds you why simple food, when prepared with care, can be incredibly satisfying. The restaurant has retained its nostalgic charm while offering a clean, bright, and comfortable dining environment. The open layout, classic marble tables, and traditional décor create a welcoming atmosphere that feels both authentic and unpretentious. The selection of dishes is impressive, with an extensive spread of freshly prepared Teochew classics displayed beautifully at the counter. From braised duck and steamed fish to preserved vegetables, tofu, and seasonal greens, every dish looked appetising and well-maintained. The food certainly lived up to expectations. The silky Teochew porridge was perfectly cooked light, comforting, and the ideal companion to the richly flavoured side dishes. The braised duck was tender, succulent, and coated in a deeply aromatic braising sauce that paired wonderfully with the porridge. The braised tofu absorbed the savoury gravy beautifully, while the preserved vegetables and stir-fried greens added freshness and balance to the meal. Every dish tasted homely, authentic, and prepared with consistency. What impressed me further was the value for money. The portions were generous, the ingredients were fresh, and the pricing remained very reasonable considering the quality. Service was efficient and friendly, with staff who were attentive without being intrusive. Despite being a well-known establishment, everything from selecting dishes to payment was smooth and organised. If you’re looking for genuine Teochew porridge in Singapore, White House Teochew Porridge is undoubtedly worth a visit. It is the kind of place where tradition, quality, and comfort come together effortlessly. A dependable favourite that delivers an authentic dining experience every time and I will certainly be returning.
View on GoogleWhite Teochew Porridge is one of my go-to places when I’m craving something comforting and flavorful. Their Teochew porridge is smooth and light, but the side dishes are what really make the meal special. I especially love their shrimp paste and braised duck — both are super fragrant, well-seasoned, and go perfectly with the porridge. The steamed fish is also very fresh and simply cooked, which really lets the natural sweetness of the fish come through. Portions are generous, prices are reasonable, and everything tastes homely and satisfying. A great spot for a cozy, hearty Teochew-style meal. Would definitely come back again! 😊
