Common Man Coffee Roasters - Joo Chiat Road
In Joo Chiat, our heritage-inspired café is a sunny retreat in a quiet neighbourhood. Housed in a 1920s shophouse, we offer the same coffee menu, all-day brunch, and coffee bean retail.

We were staying at a hotel just up the road and I actually was planning on going to breakfast at a cafe right next door, but when we saw how popular Common Man was we took a peek at the menu and decided to check it out! There was a wait to get a table, but when we were ok with bar seating we were seated quickly. The menu was pricey compared to the street markets we had been eating at (most entrees $25-30) but they looked fun! The husband got a tasty eggs Benedict with ox cheeks which was very flavorful, but the star was the Turkish breakfast I ordered; it came with hummus, pomegranate, pitas, and this amazing filo strip wrapped soft boiled egg! It was so crispy and the filo was lightly sweet and all the elements together were so good. The food was top notch! Only small complaint was that we both ordered 'fast brew' coffees and they must have not had any brewed because it took a good 20 minutes to get our coffees. But staff was all friendly and the restaurant itself had a fun bustling vibe. At checkout they gave us a little packet of coupons for CNY; so we ended up going back a second time later on our trip! The second time I got the mushroom avocado toast- honestly it was a little too rich for me- it tasted almost like they used re-hydrated dried mushrooms and was a very intense flavor, but it was interesting and enjoyable. The husband got their version of a full English breakfast which was a ton of food! I tried to help him out a bit (I liked the hashbrown cake thing and the sausage) but seriously- a lot of food lol! I tried a fancy coffee this time, the Kaya toast latte and it was so good! It has a sweet flavored foam and little crispy bits on top and it was creamy and coconutty and not too sweet, I loved it! Also they were much faster with both drinks the 2nd time so that was nice. Overall I'd definitely recommend it! It can definitely get busy during peak times but both times we went the wait wasn't very long.
View on GoogleFood were actually good!! We tried the hummus, bulgogi beef rice and smoked salmon pizza they were all tasty and well prepared!! Especially the smoked salmon pizza, the crust was fluffy and soft with slight chew Iced latte was okayy slightly acidic
View on GoogleThe food ingredients are very fresh, and the overall quality is quite good. Portions are on the larger side—one set is too much for a single person to finish. The coffee is decent, nothing particularly special. The indoor environment is fairly nice, but it gets crowded during peak hours and you may have to queue. Unfortunately, I happened to run into road construction outside. There was drilling going on, with dust and fumes everywhere—you could even feel it in the air and almost on the food and coffee. I originally wanted to stay and chill a bit longer, but the constant noise from the roadwork was too much to handle, so I quickly finished my meal, paid, and left. I’ve been back to this place a couple more times recently. The pancakes are massive—definitely too much for one person to finish. I was already completely full after just one. They do taste pretty good though. The Ribeye Steak & Eggs is definitely worth ordering. The quality of the beef was excellent, and both the steak and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The egg yolk was slightly runny without being too raw, which was exactly how I like it.
View on GoogleIt’s just a great café with a pleasant atmosphere, stylish interiors, and a fantastic menu—which is why almost every table inside is taken, even on a weekday! Of course, there’s also an outdoor terrace, but it gets a bit hot there. My friend and I stopped by to catch up and have some coffee. The coffee selection is excellent. Plus, you can not only enjoy coffee at the café but also buy beans to take home. They have a nice selection of branded tableware. I was very satisfied and highly recommend visiting this wonderful place.
View on GoogleCommon Man Coffee Roasters, Joo Chiat – A Must-Visit for Breakfast During my last visit to Singapore, I stopped by Common Man Coffee Roasters on Joo Chiat Road with a friend for breakfast. Joo Chiat is a fantastic area for exploring all sorts of cafes, and this one is definitely a must-visit. Vibe & Ambience: The cafe is very spacious and beautifully designed. It has that polished, upmarket vibe that fits perfectly with the surrounding neighbourhood. It’s a great place to start your morning. Food & Juices: We absolutely loved the breakfast and the fresh juices. • Juices: These were served in jars with dried orange slices and metal straws—they looked as good as they tasted. • The Meal: The food was excellent. We had a sourdough toast topped with avocado mash and a generous portion of mushrooms, served with perfectly creamy scrambled eggs on the side. We also tried a breakfast bowl with granola, yogurt, coconut flakes, and fresh fruit, which was very refreshing. Service: The staff were very friendly and helpful. They didn't just take our order but actually gave us some great recommendations, which we really appreciated. The Coffee: Interestingly, we didn't actually sit down for a coffee this time, but I am such a fan of their brew that I bought a bag of their coffee grounds to take home with me. Verdict: If you are in Joo Chiat, do not miss this place. Between the friendly service, the spacious seating, and the top-quality food, it’s a brilliant breakfast spot.
