It was my first time try and I’m honestly in love with it! Randomly saw this stall n thought giving it a try— I was also lucky enough to be the last customer of the day. I personally prefer the dry version. The noodles don’t have that strong “kee” taste, and instead, they absorb the stock really well, making every bite very flavourful. They also use mock abalone as a replacement for squid, which is quite unique. The $5 portion was also quite generous, with 3 prawns and lots of meat. The chilli has a nice kick — spicy but not overly salty. Overall, I really enjoyed it and would definitely come back again!
View on GoogleThe $8 Hokkien mee was average and did not quite live up to expectations. It lacked the rich umami flavour that makes a good plate of Hokkien mee stand out, and the broth was rather bland and uninspiring. While the accompanying chilli certainly packed a punch, it was overwhelmingly spicy and ended up masking the overall taste of the noodles instead of complementing them. Overall, it was a decent meal, but the flavours could be better balanced and more robust.
View on GoogleFirst try and in love with it! No joke! Was also lucky to be the last customer for the day. I’m on prefer the slightly wet version. The noodles doesn’t have the ‘ki’ taste, in fact the noodles absorb the stock really well. There’s mock abalone in replacement for squid. Chilli is spicy and not too salty.
View on GoogleWOK HEI POWER Stopped by Yi Ji Fried Hokkien Prawn Noodles at Old Airport Hawker Centre and ordered their $4 black carrot cake. The uncle was friendly and impressively quick, which made the experience even better. Portion size felt a little small for me, but the quality made up for it. The carrot cake had great wok hei, especially the nicely charred, burnt bits that added depth and flavor. Overall, a satisfying and tasty dish worth returning for. Would happily come back again.
View on GoogleWow amazing beyond words. I have had this everytime I’m here at old airport and it’s the highlight of my trip. The chili is so shiok and spicy and the broth is amazing. The only thing it can improve on is having the wok hey flavour but hey the queue is long so I ain’t complaining.
