For live prawn noodles, can't get any fresher than this at this price point. The prawns are scooped out in front of you and goes straight into the broth for a quick blanche to retain the succulent sweetness and crunchy texture. Paired with the soup stock and your choice of rice noodles,it's simply one of the best dish for prawn lovers . Note you may have to get hands on to deshell the prawns to get that very last bit of essence out from them .. Highly rated and a 'must try 'when visiting the Old Airport area.
View on GoogleSweet, tight prawns in clean and savoury broth with fresh noodles. Delicious. Late, around 8:30, I was looking for dinner. I paused by the bright yellow sign “Kallang Cantonese Live Prawn Noodle”. The chef encouraged me. It sounded good. He set to work, reaching for prawns from the fridge at the back, not the water tank at the front. Not too much of a surprise. I understand live prawns arrive in time for lunch and either sell out, or can't last in freshwater, by late evening. He worked quickly. Six prawns into the simmering broth, fresh yellow noodles, beansprouts, a scatter of chives. Soup and noodles ladled into a bowl. Antennae snipped, the whole prawns arranged. Chunks of crispy lard and shallot over the top. I retreated with the bowl to a nearby table and plunged in. I stripped the prawns of their shells, sucking the heads clean. The meat was sweet, tight. I slurped the noodles and spooned the broth, clean and savoury with a depth and sweetness. It ran down my chin. I was happy.
View on GooglePretty good prawn noodles with generous toppings. 4 peeled prawns and they are quite succulent! Sad that there was only 1 pork rib tho, but it’s quite big. Soup is nice and comforting. But the electric fans in the market are blowing way too strongly to allow you to enjoy your meal properly Tried the live prawn version and it’s really good. The soup actually gets tastier as you drink it, but I still prefer the dry version — that way I get to enjoy the prawn sweetness from the soup without the alkaline mee taste.
View on GoogleFrom the tank to the table. This hawker stalls sells live prawns noodles from $7 onwards. I ordered the $9 one for three good sized prawns and added $2 for the pig tail. Worth every cent. The prawns are obviously fresh and firm to bite. Pig tail is well cooked till soft. Meat falls off easily. Pig skins were added joy to me. Soup is definitely full of prawn goodness and taste. Overall it’s a great worthwhile meal.
View on GoogleDidn't try their popular live prawn noodle but instead the pork ribs prawn noodle(no.1). It was pretty decent except that the pork ribs wasn't the tender type that fall off the bones. Surprisingly they also included pork slices which was very good, so next time I guess I will order no.7 instead.
