From the outside, the gallery looks small, but once you go inside it is actually very big and spacious. It is built almost like a maze, with a nice journey that guides visitors through the space, similar to a science centre. There are many visual effects, TVs, and interactive panels throughout. It is also two storeys, and everything inside is very clean and well maintained. I can see that Monetary Authority of Singapore has put in a lot of effort to set up and maintain this place. It was also really interesting to understand and learn more about the important role it plays in Singapore. There are many infographics and text around the gallery, and everything is explained very clearly. The air-conditioning is very cooling and refreshing. It opens on weekdays from 9.30am to 5.30pm, and I believe it is closed on public holidays. When I visited at around 5.15pm, it was totally empty, which was quite nice as I had the entire space to myself. It actually took me longer than expected to explore the place, and I only briefly skimmed through the areas without reading everything.
View on GoogleCelebrating Singapore’s Financial Heartbeat Tucked away along the bustling Shenton Way, the MAS Gallery is an absolute treasure that far exceeded my expectations. Often overlooked in favour of more conventional art museums, this thoughtfully curated space offers a fascinating deep dive into Singapore’s journey from a humble trading post to a global financial powerhouse – and it does so with style, clarity, and genuine warmth. From the moment I stepped in, I was impressed by the sleek, modern layout and the welcoming atmosphere. The gallery is immaculately maintained, with interactive displays, crisp multimedia presentations, and real historical artefacts that bring the story of money, policy, and prosperity to life. Whether you’re a finance enthusiast or simply curious about how Singapore built its economic miracle, there’s something here for everyone. I especially loved the section on Singapore’s currency evolution – seeing the old coins and notes, along with the intricate security features of today’s banknotes, was unexpectedly captivating. What truly sets MAS Gallery apart is its ability to make complex topics like monetary policy, banking regulation, and investment management feel accessible and even exciting. The exhibits are bilingual (English and Chinese), well-lit, and easy to navigate. I spent nearly an hour reading, watching short films, and trying out the touchscreen quizzes – all completely free of charge! The staff on duty were polite, knowledgeable, and happy to answer questions without being intrusive. The gallery’s location on Shenton Way adds to its charm – it’s right in the heart of Singapore’s financial district, yet the space feels calm and unhurried, a quiet oasis amid the skyscrapers. After your visit, you can grab a coffee nearby or take a short walk to Tanjong Pagar for lunch. If you’re looking for an enriching, budget-friendly (free!) activity that’s both educational and inspiring, do not miss MAS Gallery. It’s a proud showcase of how far Singapore has come, and a testament to the vision behind its success. Highly recommended for students, professionals, tourists, and families alike. I’ll definitely be back with friends!
View on GoogleIf I could give this museum six stars, I would. I've visited the equivalent of this in London at the Bank of England, but this exhibition is vastly superior and far exceeded my expectations. What's more, it's free. It starts with the history of currency in Singapore and how the various economic & political events led to changes in the bank notes & coinage. Many historic bank notes are on display. Beyond this first gallery, there are many interactive exhibits that challenge you to make decisions about how to manage the economy under different scenarios. The depth and scope of the information provided here is not aimed at children. I would rate it at "A level" or even "Degree Level." As an adult with an economics degree, I really appreciated that. The agenda presented here is very up-to-date covering MAS's involvement in the green agenda and even modern financial developments like blockchain. Finally, for those interested in a career in finance, it provides some pointers and options for you to explore based on your interests and skills. First class museum.
View on GoogleI recently visited the MAS Gallery and was impressed by the wealth of information available across the two floors. The exhibit covers a range of topics related to Singapore's monetary management, reserves, exchange rates, and the history of banknotes in Singapore. The gallery provides an informative insight into the role of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), including its history and future initiatives. The exhibition is curated with great care, featuring interactive exhibits and multimedia content that engage visitors. One of the highlights for me was seeing the banknotes from different periods in Singapore's history and learning about their significance. Overall, I highly recommend the MAS Gallery to anyone interested in exploring Singapore's monetary and economic history in a fascinating and interactive way.
