El Kapitan is a quaint little restaurant situated in the CBD area. My friend and I made a reservation for a late lunch (1.30pm) there. At that time, the restaurant was quiet and there was only us and another pair dining there. Overall the food was average - personally not as flavorful as I expected. Borscht tasted like a regular tomato soup, nothing to shout out about. Salad was fresh and I liked the dressing, but the crepe (Blinis) lacked taste. Not too sure if the sour cream was supposed to enhance taste or just to add texture, but it didn’t do much for the dish. Also, the portions for the lunch set meals were decent but not filling. We added on the dumplings (pelmeni) as well, and it was rather mediocre. Honey cake was a surprising treat that I enjoyed, although my fellow patron commented that it was dry. Overall, felt that the lunch was a bit too pricy for the experience and didn’t feel satiated after the meal. Perhaps their other dishes would be more impressive.

had such a lovely dinner here. truffle dumplings and mushroom tempura pasta were super flavorful, and the sausage with fries was spot on. definitely must leave room for dessert the nutella blini and new soft-cake napoleon were incredible. paired great with the kvass and kombucha too. 10/10, will definitely be back. 100% tuff place.

Our first visit to Kapitan and we absolutely loved it! The Russian food was delicious, flavorful, and such a great experience trying something different. I also had my first-ever non-alcoholic beer here, which made the visit even more memorable. 🍺 Great food, welcoming atmosphere, and definitely a place we’d be happy to come back to. Highly recommended if you want to try authentic Russian cuisine!

Came here with my parents on a friend's recommendation and we absolutely loved it. The food was truly authentic Russian/Slavic food and tasted exactly how it should. Even my father, who is hard to please, was impressed and kept ordering more. Everything we tried was delicious. The interior design was amazing and we had fun looking around at all the posters and spotting all the familiar Russian things. The music was well suited and at a great volume to be able to hear it while still being able to easily have a conversation. The owner was very friendly and engaging and the service was great. We will definitely be back for more amazing food!

Came here for dinner at Kapitan Restaurant | Authentic Slavic Cuisine at Maxwell Chambers, and it turned out to be quite an interesting experience trying something completely different from the usual cuisines. We were warmly welcomed by an Eastern European lady, who was incredibly friendly and took the time to explain the menu. Since it was our first time trying Slavic food, we decided to follow all her recommendations, which made the experience feel more guided and enjoyable. We started with the Russian drink kvass, which was quite unique — slightly tangy and refreshing, definitely something different from what we’re used to. For food, we ordered the Ukrainian borscht, chicken pelmeni, lamb chebureki, and lamb kotlety. Each dish had its own distinct flavor, hearty and comforting in a very different way compared to Asian cuisine. Not being familiar with Slavic cuisine, I can’t say how authentic it is, but everything tasted good to my taste buds, and that’s what matters. If you’re looking to try something new and step out of your usual food choices, this is definitely a place worth saving.
