Visited Tanjong Pagar on a Sunday and there wasnt much options for food as most of the F&B here only serve the working crowd. Glad to find a restaurant still open and decided to give it a try. Have been wanting to try sometime back whenever I walked past but its usually weekday and there were many other options to choose from then. Quite a thick menu to begin with. Took some time flipping through and deciding on what to eat. Not sure if they are really understaffed or only minimal staff working on Sunday. Wanted to ask for recommendations waved a few times but didn't get any response. Picked some items based on my gut feel. Ordered a main and added 2 items, the onsen egg and curry. Also had a glass of water. Food wise I would say the portion was rather decent. Taste was not too bad though. The mentaiko was quite generous as well. It was a pretty filling meal if you ask me I would say nothing much to complain about. There was the free flow of vegetable and sesame sauce. Enjoyed the cutlet it was pretty well done. The curry was good with the rice or with the pork. The sauce for the pork dip was kinda little but I didn't request for more. The sesame seeds I thought would be more authentic experience if they had the bowl and stick for grinding it. Overall was okay, would give it a 3.5 than a 3. Prices were considered quite reasonable for such a big tray of food in the city. Worth a try.

Very nice Japanese place with a solid lunch menu. I’ve been there a few times but this time was by far the best experience. They have added a lunch menu for 30$ where you get free flow of fresh cabbage, a wide choice of main dishes as well as a soft drinks. In This menu you can get the pork fillet which is excellent with very little fat - however I would avoid other cuts as they can get fatty and quite hard to chew. So pleasantly surprised for this particular choice. Gyoza on the other hand are dry and full of fat. Service is good, fast and efficient. It’s crowded weekdays for lunch but it’s to be expected. So good experience overall this time

Place was not too crowded considering that it was a weekend dining timing. While the establishment looked inviting from the outside, I felt a little suffocated from the tight space between the chairs and tables, and the counter area could do with some tidying up. Food wise, I enjoyed the fresh sliced cabbage with the sesame sauce. It is great that one could ask for top up for the vegetable. The fried oysters were plump and I like how they were beautifully encased within a golden brown crust from the bread crumbs. For the premium pork katsu, it was not as tender as I had wanted it to be. The fats and meat ratio could be better to make it more palatable. Curry sauce was on the runny side, not allowing it to coat the rice grains, and the bread crumbs became soggy easily when drenched with the sauce. Service was good. I like how friendly the staff was, and they certainly make the dining experience an enjoyable one.

Pretty nice tonkatsu spot but I wouldn't say it's mind blowing and the best. The pork loin was honestly a bit tough for my liking but it's probably also a function of the cut and meet quality. For the prices they're charging I don't expect melt in your mouth meats. Overall, I still like the place and I think the serving is pretty generous! Free flow cabbage if you aren't full.

1 pax set ($30++): Hokkaido pork tamagotoji - Fine but not such large pieces of pork and a little too watery. Rice set - Fine. Aji (mackerel) fry 2 pieces - Good. Large pieces. Ayataka green tea - Fine. From earlier visits: Premium pork katsu - Thick and juicy. Aji fry - Good. Oyster fry - Good. Premium Hokkaido pork katsu - Tender pork, good panko, fried just right. Aji fry - Good. Enjoyed the premium pork katsu. The mentailko side, a very small portion, was ok.
