I am not sure how it gets 4 to 5 stars from other reviews, but this is by far, the most expensive and underwhelming fish soup 🎣 Singapore. I paid $9.26 for a half filled bowl of fish soup with thick beehoon. After eating it, i was still very hungry... The broth does not have the strong aroma of fish and it only came with a few thinly sliced fish slices. Furthermore, there were some seats around their stall but it was quite squeezy. I would rather walk a little further to Hong Lim market, Arcade or Exchange for actual fish soup that has a generous amount of vegetables, fish and broth that you can tell has been boiled for hours in fish bones.
View on GoogleFirst time trying this stall on 22 Jun, and I noticed it was relatively empty compared to the others nearby. Unfortunately, I can see why. Paid over $16 for the Specialty Seafood Soup with rice, but the portion was very small. There was barely any soup (see photo), and when I politely asked for just a little more, I was told I had to pay extra. Very inflexible service, and the staff’s attitude didn’t help. The soup itself was only average and overly salty—not even comparable to Yan Ji despite the much higher price. Poor value for money and disappointing service. I won’t be returning. Buyers beware!
View on GoogleI arrived at 11:35 AM, thinking I was early, only to find a number of patrons already waiting for their orders. Thankfully, the entire process was efficient due to their self-service ordering kiosk. I ordered the Classic Fish Soup ($7.50), added Napa Cabbage ($1), and a side of Braised Meat with Rice Noodles ($3.90). As each bowl is made from scratch, I waited around 10 minutes for my order, which is a pretty fast turnaround time. Upon the first sip of the soup, I was blown away by its complex and robust flavour. Having explored various fish soups over the past couple of years, including several collagen-style ones, this one really hits differently. I was expecting a modern fusion style, but there are subtle notes of Teochew flavours like ginger and salted plum, making it a pleasant surprise. The sliced batang fish was decent but nothing spectacular. The addition of marinated minced meat with hua tiao wine was a great touch. There was also a nice sweetness thanks to the napa cabbage. The braised meat with rice noodles is exceptionally tender and complements the soup well. And the chili is so good that I can understand why they charge if you ask for extra portion. However, I actually think you do not need the chili at all since the flavours are so well-balanced. Perhaps a simple cut chilli padi would suffice. I am puzzled by the mixed reviews I've seen. I will certainly return for this and I reccomend you dine in for best experience.
View on GoogleLives up to its name, the soup is a delicious, cloudy pork-based broth with a hint of seafood stock. But it does feel more like your could add any main seafood topping to it, and call it X-soup. So it doesn’t really allow th freshness of the ingredients to show because the soup masks everything. It’s definitely worth a try, but the portion is a bit small, and the ingredients given aren’t very generous - but I suppose for $10.50 that’s what you get here.
View on GoogleA proper fish soup with fresh fish, seafood and minced pork. Many choices of ingredients, sides and sizes. The soup is aromatic, full of flavour, well balanced and seasoned and topped with veggies. They have a great chili sauce as well. Spicy, sweet and sour with a texture that sticks well to the fish slices. There's usually a long queue during lunch hours, so it would be advisable to time your visit.
