I used to patronise the Tekka branch and my go-to order is pomfret. I'm trying this branch for the first time. Somehow, I saw everyone ordering Batang here, so I went with the fish head mixed with sliced fish ($8) and rice ($0.50). They are one of the few Teochew fish soup stalls that stills offers Tang Oh which is a nice, old-school touch. I think the sliced fish were just okay for me. I'm fussy with my sliced fish. It has to be thick cuts and skin on so you can tell if the fish is fresh. These are hard to come by these days. But the fish head really blew me away. It is chunky, full of meat. Most importantly, It is so fresh and tender, without any hint of marinate. I highly recommend you go for the fish head if you can handle it. Don't be intimidated by the queue. I only had to wait around 10 minutes.
View on GoogleGood and light bowl of fish soup. Can taste the freshness of the fish without too much of the “fishiness smell”. We got the SGD 8 batang fish portion and it was good! Fish was fresh and tasted a lightly marinated. Overall very nice balanced taste and I highly recommend!
View on GoogleQueue had already started forming before 11:30am. The portion size seems to have shrunk quite a alot. For a $6.50 sliced fish bee hoon soup, the amount of bee hoon was really little. Since I don’t take much carbs, it was still manageable for me, but my colleague who does ended up getting a second main because this was not enough. The sliced fish I had also came with bones in some pieces. That said, the soup was flavourful.
View on GoogleFor years, this fish soup has been a shining star in my culinary adventures, thanks to its authentic taste experience at Maxwell Hawker Centre. The outstanding flavour profile pairs perfectly with rice or noodles, while the side dishes, such as pickled shredded ginger, add a wonderful touch. Notably, this Teochew fish soup stays true to its roots, without salted beans. The medley of fresh fish, including Batang, Grouper, and Pomfret, is a testament to the stall's commitment to quality. Mr. Liew's dedication to his craft, honed over twenty years, is truly inspiring.
View on GoogleSimple fish with soup but the dish this stall serves packs a punch. The fish either batang or grouper is extremely fresh. And the soup is the secret. Although simple looking but is it extremely flavourful and with the addition of the vege and dried sole fish it really lifts this dish to the next level. The price is also very very wallet friendly.
