Last night in Singapore. Headed to Maxwell open-minded for a late dinner and found Ding Ding Hong, of red hot renown. I picked the signature chilli crab, medium spice and was shown the price on a calculator. It made things clear, no misunderstanding. I paid, paper tissues pressed into my hand and told to come back in a few minutes. I found a beer and headed back. The cracked crab was ready for me, swimming in a lake of orange sauce, on a white oval plate with the stall's number printed across the top. Tucked beside it, a pair of gloves for grappling the meat from the dismembered shell. It was sweet and soft. The sauce was rich and tangy. A gentle warmth built up mouthful after mouthful. I enjoyed every bite. My plate went back wiped clean.
View on GoogleThey will overcharge you. And if you're a tourist, they will scam you. They can speak English to take your order and money, but will miraculously become illiterate and monolingual when you ask why you were charged double the price. Attempt to confront this monetary miscalculation, and the intoxicated stall owner will aggressively film you with his phone and rant at you in Chinese, while refusing any attempts to communicate in anything but. If you do visit, see if you can spot a can of Tiger beer or Glass of Tsingtao poured out of the bottle behind the vegetable fridge. 5/5 for the atmosphere, it is a stunning recreation of being in the worst parts of China again; if that's what they were going for. After all, there is some entertainment value in sitting a few tables away and watching other people get scammed.
View on GoogleCharged $39 dollars for the hallow crab while other store charges less than half price. And $9 dollar for a vegetable dish. Worst food experience in Singapore so far. The photo shows how it comes with, only 4 pieces of crab meat. Avoid!
View on GoogleAfter seeing what other reviewers have said, can confirm black shop with confidence. Saw with my own eyes that total weight of ALL my ingredients (1 sausage, 1 cabbage, 2 luncheon meat, 1 slice fried pork skin, about 200g pork belly and a few very thin slice of potato) was slightly over 500g, got quoted $13.8 so I asked how they calculate and she told me $1.5/100g veg and $1.80/100g meat, and $1.50 per luncheon meat. After cooking I asked again and they immediately got aggressively defensive and could not give me a clear explanation of how they got the price, instead they start blaming me for confronting them after they already cook the dish. I eat mala frequently enough to know that I DID NOT order anywhere near 700g of ingredients for myself, so the nerve to gaslight your customers and then accuse them of trying to cause trouble. Advertise cheap prices so they can prey on unsuspecting tourists... I know you are reading this, don't treat all your customers like fools, you know full well yourselves Stay FAR FAR AWAY!!
View on GoogleDon’t get from this shop. They said i ordered too little and i asked how much more do i need to add and i was shouted at. Literally shouted at to either add more or put everything back in chinese. I don’t see why is there a need to shout at a customer asking something so simple and easy to reply. Food taste wise was blend. nothing special about it. a simple coffee shop that sells mala would be better and much cheaper. With the amount of food seen in the picture, I was charged $10. This is literally a black shop as quoted by others as well. The way food was placed was also unhygienic. unless you have a strong stomach, I suggest getting something else at the food centre as this is definitely not worth your time and money.
