Was here on a weekday afternoon. Decided to try the coffee here instead of PPP Cafe at 2nd Flr. This cafe is well known for its paranakan kuehs, and they now offer western styled cakes too. Ordered a long black… I am pleasantly surprise that the coffee is robust, strong. The dark roast, nutty flavors. Seatings is open air atrium just outside the Brompton Shop. So it’s good for pple watching too. Will be back to try their cakes/ kuehs!
View on GoogleWanted some dessert so stopped by at this cafe known for local desserts. Thought the pulut hitam cake was better than the tapioca kueh. The pulut hitam cake was not too sweet and had the nice texture from the black glutinous rice. Their cakes seem to be quite popular with people coming to buy whole cakes to take away.
View on GoogleDespite having a very traditional localized name, this cafe offers a delightful range of Western-style cakes inspired by favourite local desserts such as Pulut Hitan, Ondeh-Ondeh, etc. The coffee is also infused with local flavour of coconut milk. While it is East meets West flavours, they work beautifully together. I really enjoyed the Gula Melaka cake and Coconut Latte. The prices are quite steep but one gets to enjoy it in relative peace and quiet despite it being located in the middle of a busy mall.
View on GoogleGave Sinpopo Coffee at Funan a second chance, this time trying their Black Forest cake. Unfortunately, it still didn’t impress me much. My first visit was for their durian cake, which I found quite ordinary and not particularly memorable. This time, I tried the Black Forest cake hoping it would be better, but the taste was still rather standard. The cake was okay, but nothing special enough to justify the price. The ingredients and flavours felt quite basic, especially considering how expensive the cakes are. It’s not that the cakes were bad, but I expected more in terms of flavour and overall quality for the price point. The Funan outlet itself is quite nice and comfortable, making it a decent spot to sit down for coffee and dessert. However, based on both visits, I don’t think the cakes are worth the premium price. 🍰 First try: Durian Cake — 2.5/5 🍰 Second try: Black Forest Cake ⭐ Overall for the cakes: 2.8/5
View on GoogleSinpopo didn’t miss. Tried their chendol latte and it was such a clever twist—fragrant gula melaka notes with just the right bitterness from the coffee, nostalgic yet modern. The kaya cake was equally good: soft, moist, and not overly sweet, with a rich homemade kaya flavour that really stood out. Loved the cosy old-school vibe too—it makes the whole experience feel very Singaporean. Definitely a spot I’d return to when craving local flavours done right.
