Its A Wonderful Life4 months ago

Arriving at the historic iron monument of Lau Pa Sat late in the evening—around 9 PM—in a state of absolute, ravenous delirium, we were instantly confronted by a dizzying paradox of choice. Overwhelmed by the sheer density of aromatic hawker stalls and completely bypassing our usual ritual of cross-referencing online reviews, we succumbed to a classic traveler’s instinct: we joined the longest, most promising queue. This gastronomic gamble led us straight to Seng Kee Local Delights. Seeking comfort in local staples, we placed orders for a duet of quintessential Singaporean dishes: the iconic Fried Hokkien Mee and the Fried Oyster Omelet. The Singapore-style Fried Hokkien Mee proved to be a highly respectable contender. Infused with a rich, savory broth and kissing the palate with a gentle whisper of wok hei, it was an entirely satisfying plate of noodles. While it may not scale the absolute peaks of the city's legendary Hokkien Mee pantheon, it is undeniably executed well. Our only real critique lies in its architecture; the portion size errs slightly on the modest side for a truly famished traveler. That being said, it is a dish we would comfortably order again upon a return visit. Conversely, the Fried Oyster Omelet was a profound exercise in culinary heartbreak. While the structural seasoning and flavor profile of the egg batter were perfectly acceptable, the execution faltered heavily on its core promise. In a dish where the briny, decadent oyster is meant to be the undisputed star, we were crestfallen to uncover a mere four minuscule oysters hidden across the entire plate. It felt less like a celebrated seafood delicacy and more like a premium-priced plate of glorified scrambled eggs. To feel shortchanged at a bustling landmark is a bitter pill to swallow, echoing the exact grievances whispered by other discerning diners online. Ultimately, Seng Kee Local Delights is absolutely worth a visit to witness the frantic, high-energy theater of its wok masters, but strategy is paramount. If you pull up a stool here, anchor your expectations and stick firmly to the Fried Hokkien Mee. Leave the oyster omelet to the annals of missed opportunities, and save your appetite for the other treasures waiting to be discovered under the Victorian rafters.

Decided to try out Seng Kee Local Delights. They're inside of Lau Pa Sat. Lineup was long and staff had a sporadic (ie. random) way of fulfilling orders. - Fried carrot cake combo ($7.80 SGD) - nice trying both flavours (sweet and savoury). Okay but added spicy sauce for much needed kick

The Fried Hokkien noodle tastes better than expected. I had a late dinner from work and wanted to get a quick dinner to fill up. This shop did not disappoint me with a small plate of noodle. 4/5 Even at 930 there were people lining up for this place, you know this place won’t be too bad. There is not much service to provide inside LPS. 3/5 The atmosphere is typical LPS 2/5.

Pretty long Q during weekdays lunch hours but Q clear pretty fast. Their fried kway teow is impressively delicious. One of the best I had in Singapore. For the price, personally think that it’s worth it. Thou its slightly higher price than hawker centre but almost the same as some food court or coffee shop and Portion is not small. Highly recommended.

The portion is big, worth the 9 sgd. The taste is delicious/flavorful both the savory & the sweet types. The cooking process was quick, the guy who served me was nice and informative. Had to take one star off because they did not open exactly at 8 (it was around 8:30). And the atmosphere also, i was a bit creeped out by a crow/some strange bird (it’s a semi outdoor hawker center after all, but it’s still super clean).
