First time trying this shop. The food was decent, though I’m not sure how to describe the taste in detail. I found the sauce on the chicken dish a bit too sweet for my liking, which made it slightly overwhelming. The prices are on the higher side, but still acceptable given the nicely decorated and pleasant dining environment. My only wish is local establishment to be sustainable and last long in their business.

I don’t usually leave 1-star reviews, but this experience was very disappointing. I ordered 2 chicken rice and was asked which parts I preferred. So I requested for 2 chicken thigh rice. After making payment and asking for a receipt, I was only given the order slip. The same staff later came back and said there were no more thighs and asked if breast meat was okay. Not wanting to make things difficult, I asked if at least 1 packet could be thigh meat. She checked with the kitchen and came back with a no. Out of curiosity, I walked over to take a look and could clearly see chicken thigh portions still available, yet they refused to serve. I requested a refund. The refund was processed, but the last 4 digits reflected did not match the card I used. When I asked the cashier, she mentioned it was processed according to the payment system. After all the time wasted, I even asked again if I could proceed to buy 2 packets of chicken thigh rice. The reply was immediate, no more thighs, only breast meat. After checking Google reviews, I realised there are similar complaints about refusal to serve thighs and poor service attitude. This is not my first time at Five Star Kampung Chicken Rice, which makes this outlet’s service quality even more disappointing. Service transparency and consistency really need improvement.

I needed to order 19 bento sets for an office lunch event. However, somehow I only ordered 16 sets. The staff was very kind and offered to make another round of delivery to deliver for free for the 3 additional packets. All the food arrived just before we break for lunch. Kudos to the team's efficiency and great service! The rice and vegetables portion was sufficient. We ordered the chicken and pork bento. We felt the slices of kampung chicken could be more. Nonetheless, all were very tasty.

Our go-to spot for chicken rice in the Upper Bukit Timah area. While there’s also Boon Tong Kee at the other end of Cheong Chin Nam Road, we always come back here. The rice here is softer and it comes with soup — because no meal feels complete without soup. I have my own three steps to enjoy chicken rice: First, mix the rice with dark soy sauce, Second, take a mouthful to savour the flavor. Third, pair the rice with the chicken meat — ideally with the skin, because the skin really brings out the fragrance of the dish. Apart from the chicken rice, another dish worth trying is the 滑蛋河 (silky egg hor fun), which has just the right amount of “wok hei.
