I like the old school vibe. And it seems this place was famous when it was at chinatown. But the porridge feels seriously watered down. Meat portions for the chicken porridge is also sparse. But the $12 ginger chicken stole the show. Juicy soft and i just love ginger minced and lathered all over the leg. I think it is their sale of the side dishes keeping it up.
View on GoogleAverage at best. Pros: porridge is genuinely silky. Legit. Service was good with friendly aunties. Lots of parking nearby. Cons: ingredients in porridge are almost non existent, and despite the smooth pleasant texture, the taste was very bland. I almost never put light sauce into my porridge, but this required almost 2 spoonful. Also, the ginger chicken while tasty for an appetiser, is way too expensive for $12. You could probably get the same portion of steamed chicken elsewhere for much less. Portion pictured beside chopsticks for reference.
View on GoogleThe perfect porridge. Balanced and tasty. Many configurations but I’ve always selected no. 1 which has everything. This place also has delicious and well prepared stir fried liver slices. The sauce was well blended with the liver which was cooked just nice and still soft. They also have ginger chicken which is very delicious. Always crowded but always still have enough tables and chairs. Service is quick and attentive and lady boss goes around to check for feedback. So humble. Atmosphere is laid back chill.
View on GoogleCame around 5+pm for early dinner. No wait time. Friendly staff. Food is old school. Bit blend but tasty in it's own way. The dishes complement the porridge. Raw salmon is the main attraction for me. While the chilled chicken dish comes next. Price wise ranges from avg to above AVG. Depends on wat u order. But it's worth the experience. Would bring frens and family here to relive memories
View on GoogleOld school porridge at new school prices. Mixed pork porridge at $5 and a bowl of youtiao at $3. The youtiao price is too high when compared to a bowl of porridge. Taste of the porridge is very old school which i liked. The texture is testament to long duration of tending over the stove. Liver was soft and intestine was chewy and nice. Wished there was more than 1 intestine. But the service was brusque, not only to me but towards other non-regulars as well.
