A taste of childhood that still delivers! 🐔🍚❤️ Back at Nam Kee Chicken Rice after so many years, and I’m happy to say it is still Jin Ho Jiak! 😋🔥 This was the chicken rice I grew up eating, and it remains one of my family’s favourites today. 👨👩👧👦❤️ The chicken rice was delicious, and the side dishes were equally enjoyable. 👍🍽️ I also enjoyed their complimentary Dangui soup 🥣😋 — simple, comforting and a nice touch to the meal. What makes Nam Kee even more special is its heritage. The business started in 1968 and is now managed by the 3rd generation, continuing the family tradition and serving generations of customers. 👏🏻❤️ After all these years, it’s great to see the food, tradition and memories still going strong. Highly recommended if you enjoy traditional Hainanese chicken rice! 👍🏻🐔🍚 Still my childhood favourite, still my family’s favourite, and still Jin Ho Jiak! 😋💯
View on GoogleAn average plate of chicken rice, and there are better places out there. The steamed chicken breast I had wasn’t great and the rice was just ok compared to others. The soup was nice though. The standout feature is definitely the cool, retro old skool vibe of the place but I won’t be back for the food.
View on GoogleNan Kee Chicken Rice (Thomson) has been serving comforting, traditional chicken rice for almost 50 years, and you can truly taste the experience in every plate. This long-standing stall has maintained its quality over the decades, which is not easy, and that’s what keeps both old-time customers and new visitors coming back. The staff(The spec guy) especially, the service staff, are friendly, attentive, and efficient. Even during busy hours, he remain patient and polite, ensuring orders are taken correctly and food is served promptly. His warm attitude makes customers feel welcomed, whether you’re a regular or visiting for the first time. The chicken is tender, juicy, and well-prepared, with smooth skin and flavourful meat. It’s clear that they pay close attention to the cooking process, ensuring consistency every time. The rice is fragrant and not oily, cooked just right with a subtle aroma that complements the chicken perfectly. What stands out is the simple, honest taste—no gimmicks, just classic chicken rice done well. The chilli sauce adds a nice kick, and the overall balance of flavours makes the meal very satisfying. Portions are generous and worth the price. The stall carries a strong sense of heritage and nostalgia, reminding you why traditional hawker food continues to be so special in Singapore. If you’re looking for a reliable, time-tested chicken rice place around Thomson, Nan Kee is definitely worth a visit.
View on GoogleA classic old-school chicken rice spot with a nostalgic atmosphere that feels very local and authentic. The steamed chicken was smooth and tender, and the kang kong was nicely cooked with good wok flavour. Soup was simple but comforting too. Service was efficient despite the dinner crowd, and the restaurant had a lively vibe. Only downside was that the place can feel a little warm and cramped during peak hours. Overall, still a satisfying meal and worth coming back for.
View on GoogleI have eaten the chicken rice here over the past 40 years and I still visit everytime I return to SG from overseas. It used to be the place where TV stars would have lunch in the 1990s. The roast chicken is very popular and runs out pretty quick. But the fragrant rice recipe seems to have been forgotten under the current management, and now tastes just like the ordinary chicken rice in any food court. Even the so-called homemade drinks taste of cordial syrup. Their service is still quick, but sadly the taste of the food has gone downhill in recent years. This particular lunch I had -- the rice wasn't served at the right temperature and the chicken wasn't warm because the staff were busy and they were trying to clear the chicken so that could close for the afternoon. A bit disappointing. But I ate it anyway because I have been coming regularly here for so long. I just hope they will try to improve.
