I was here because some online influencer voted this as the best chicken rice after testing more than 40 plates. Verdict for me .... Not the best but good enough. Let's go into the detail. Rice .. fragrant but does not bring out the distinctive chicken flavour or oil enough for aroma. Chicken no doubt is tender and have a good texture. It's one of the great highlights. However there are definitely better ones out there. Sauce is ok but too little for me. The chilli is spicy but lack the holistic chicken rice chilli floral gingerly garlic blend. Soya sauce (dark) is however fantastic. Soup is lacking of spirits and soul. As a combination is great but not the greatest. Some high note and some flats.
View on GoogleSecond visit to this chain store, having first tried the one at Beauty World - and it certainly was a good plate of chicken rice. ⏰ could see why there’s reviews mentioning the poor service, since they do try to clear out the diners once we are done - especially during peak hours. Orders are taken at the counter before being assigned a seat, so there’s obvious pressure to leave once done though not everyone feels the same. 🍗 the chicken rice as a whole is fault free, chicken was tender, sauce was rather light, the rice itself could be a little oilier and flavourful but otherwise good still, and the condiments were all good as well - with a rather spicy chilli 👍🏻 Good spot for a fuss free chicken rice, definitely pricier than others but a good meal nonetheless.
View on GoogleCame here for lunch after a morning walk to and fro Treetop Walk. Queue to order and pay at cashier first before we are ushered to empty table. Whole kampung chicken is now S$38, for info. Parking is hard to find. Food quality is good. Service is excellent. Chicken meat is not too tough and the ginger spring onion dip is very good. Goes well with the chicken. I usually with have a piece of meat dipped in chill sauce, ginger spring dip and black sauce together. Will come again if pass by the area.
View on GoogleTo be honest if it wasn't for a youtuber's hunt for SG's best chicken rice I would have overlooked this place, completely blocked out by the new Upper Thomson MRT station, this row of shop houses have obviously seen better days, the place has a rustic charm to it, with a bit of JB vibes. But anyway we are here for chicken rice and while the poultry and rice itself were pretty average the real star here is the killer chilli sauce and green hued ginger paste. I haven't had chicken rice chilli this spicy and with an incredible zesty aftertaste that keeps you coming back for even more. Paired with the ginger and you have a combo that I can safely say is probably one of the best condiments I have ever tasted. High praise indeed, as even after downing a cup of water chestnut, my mouth was still on fire, thats the intensity. Now thanks to the sauces, this made a very mid chicken rice become a good one. Though the beansprouts and prawn rolls were equally mid, douse them in the chilli and everything soon starts tasting better. Now if only they would sell the bottled version of this chilli, I would take this and try it on some of favourite variations.
View on GoogleCame here after watching Alderic's review. I ordered the drumstick with rice which costs $6.80. The rice today is flavourful, but a bit too clumpy. The chicken is tasty but too boney and not much meat. Service wise, the lady at counter attitude is quite bad, guess its the usual my business is good and have no lack of customers attitude? Anyway, i think the food is decent, but definitely not Singapore's best in my personal opinion.
