Queued for 2hours and 10min, thr bottle neck looks like the ordering speed since there were quite a few empty tables. Ordered black pepper chicken with broccoli and mac and cheese as sides. Waited for 15min for the food. Cost 21cents. Chicken: great Broccoli: good Mac and cheese: good Value for amount: godly Value for money: terrible Chicken was great, reasonably tender but very juicy. Also they didn't cut on the size. It was really peppery perhaps too over the top for me that it might trigger sore throat anytime. Otherwise nothing much to complain for 21cents. Broccoli was a simple blanched but it was filled with natural sweetness. Mac and cheese was heavily coated with processed cheese tasted good and doesn't make you feel thirsty after eating though. At the cost of 21 cent the amount is a lot but having to queue for 2hour plus is really a net negative. Even if you work in McDonald's for 2hour, the salary you get can easily get you the grilled chicken at their normal price plus cash to spare. In the end it is lose lose for both customer and aston, i don't believe they are making a profit from 21cents. They could have charged $2.10. However this certainly proves that if greedy landload can make the rental actually affordable eateries can really draw crowds. They are really making Singapore very unlivable.
View on GoogleThe food there is pretty decent, and the meat is well cooked. They have a good variety of side dishes as well. The food took a while to come, about 20-25 mins, which made the experience less enjoyable. However, it was still a nice meal overall. Good for families. I come here quite often.
View on GoogleDid you know the very first time I had incredible steak was at Astons? Back then when they first started they operated out of their OG stall along Katong, best part was they did open till late, my ex-gf and I would savor every morsel of ribeye, wagyu and whatever cut was available on that day. Aston himself would step out of the kitchen and check in on us about how the steaks fared. With steaks like that, Astons exploded into multiple locations, and consistency seemed to be lost in translation. I did pop into a few of their branches islandwide but each time I was met with a strange sense of alienation. Sure the mushroom sauce tasted about the same, but the steaks were never as good as the ones I had back in Katong. Needless to say, I stopped going to Astons altogether as there were far better steaks out there. Until today. Finding out that juat about every eatery was closing soon at Thomson Plaza, we were left with only just Astons or the food court as dinner options. My partner was adamant that Astons was not as bad as I remembered and I took her word for it and walked into the familiar decor. We ordered mushroom soup, a medium rare ribeye and in case the beef was a lost cause, a char-grilled chicken as backup. Thankfully though the steak was decently done, tender, juicy, doness was on point, a little smokey though I would have preferred a little more crust but this was better than all my previous inconsistencies put together. In fact, I think I tasted a little of that Katong magic. Its not fantastic, not by a long shot, but for $24, its not bad. I have worst steaks that cost nearly double that price (cue: Jack's Place). Not sure if other Astons have upped their steak game likewise but I wouldn't mind chowing down on some beef as long as its done properly.
View on GoogleAstons Specialties at Thomson Plaza is a reliable choice for an affordable steak. I had the Prime Sirloin cooked medium, and it arrived nicely grilled with good flavour. The baked potato and potato salad made for a satisfying meal, and the restaurant has a warm, spacious ambience that’s comfortable even during the lunch crowd. My only suggestion is that the sirloin portion could be a little larger
View on GoogleWent at 5pm for early dinner. Love the wedges, but the mac and cheese is just ok. The black peper sauce is good and chicken grill nice. Now ordering and payment is fully online. Convenient for introvents. Food serve with a smile. Place clean and quite spacious.
