Tried Sin Ming Rd Chicken Rice and had both the roasted chicken rice set and steamed chicken rice. Overall it was pretty decent. The chicken was well done, tender and flavourful for both versions. The rice stood out too, fragrant and not too oily, which made it easy to finish the meal. The free-flow soup was a nice touch and actually quite tasty, simple but comforting and went well with the meal. Nothing overly fancy, but it’s a solid, satisfying chicken rice spot. I’d say it’s a good place to go if you’re craving chicken rice done well without frills. One thing I must commend on, the staff are very friendly and seem to know a lot of the regulars. While we were there, lots of regulars pop in to have their meals! Their service is really good for a neighbourhood shop and they take pride in their brand.
View on GoogleThe chicken rice here is overall on the better side. I ordered their white chicken set, which comes with free soup with unlimited refills. White chicken was tender and had a clean chicken taste. The skin was slippery/glossy and was satisfying the chew on. They were soaked in a diluted light house sauce mix which complemented the chicken well and did not overpower its flavour. Their rice had a nice ginger fragrance and taste to it. Though, other than that it doesn’t have the same notes of umami and chicken taste that other chicken rice stalls I frequent have. Disappointingly though, their chicken was not up to my expectations as it was overwhelmingly sweet and only slightly spicy. This of course comes down to preference, so some would like this type of chilli, while I prefer a more savoury chilli. However, I’m glad to see that this stalls provides free minced ginger to pair the meal with. The free soup tastes refreshing and complements the heavy meal well too. Last but not least, their dark soya sauce was on the runnier side. It also didn’t have the signature sticky, chocolate / umami flavour that are characteristic of a good dark soya. The store has both indoor and outdoor seating, with the indoor being air conditioned. The outdoor seating has ceiling fans, but it still goes get a little hot under our local weather. Staff were friendly and happy to assist when needed. Overall it was a pretty decent meal and I’d come back again very occasionally if I was passing by.
View on GoogleFood: Rice is fluffy and not oily. White chicken is smooth and fresh. Chilli sauce is an important component of chicken rice but taste is very mild here hence 1 less star. Service: self service, food is prepared quickly. Atmosphere: indoor and outdoor sitting. There is air conditioning inside.
View on GoogleThe poached chicken is decent but wasn’t great. The chili and dark sauce are delicious! The curry is also nice! More stars for the hospitality and friendliness during entire dine-in experience. Will continue support when around the area.
View on GoogleDecide to head to Sin Min Chicken Rice as we opted to give Sin Swee Kee a pass due to the distance from our current location. When we reached Sin min, it was already around 8.15pm and they were about to close. We ordered a whole chicken, curry chicken noodles, hotplate tofu, thai style pork chop, two eggs and some liver. Truth be told, the chicken was truly tender. The chili was spot on as well. The rice was certainly flavourful. The tofu and pork chop were normal. the curry noodle was sort of pre-prepared and taste much like most of the mills type, but still passable. Service was good and we will certainly patronize for the chicken and the chicken rice aroma. We spent about S$89.
