I loved eating chicken rice at the old bugis st when I was a boy. So many yrs ago when I stumbled upon Ming Ji who claimed to be fr bugis, I was more than excited. There was a long queue but it was well worth the wait. The sauce was delicious, the meat was succulent and I had almost the entire 1 side of the breast meat. It was a very satisfying experience albeit a water-downed chilli sauce. I hv since been sharing my experience with my friends and foodies, includng my wife, and finally today I was at Bishan to relive that experience. Boy was I utterly disappointed. I ordered a set comprising chicken breast meat, rice and bean sprouts for $8/-. The rice had no fragrance, bean sprout was tasteless, chicken breast meat portion was stingy and skimpy that I could not even feel the textute or substance of the chicken meat. Chilli was as watery as before and it didnt seem like there was any effort to improve upon it. The only saving grace was the sauce but it wasn't enough, the "damage" had already been done. Regrettably this wld b the last time for me at Ming Ji. Not only have its quality and food portions suffered significantly, its poor value for money pricing has also made its unlikely competitions such as Loy Kee and Boon Tong Kee which are restaurants more attractive. A set of chicken rice and green veg costs $9.80 at Loy Kee restaurant vs $9 at Ming Ji stall. You do the maths.
View on GoogleAte here countless times while I was living in the area. The selling point of the chicken rice in my opinion is the SAUCE. The standard portion of chicken is not enough for $6. At some point, I really had to tell myself to stop patronising this stall in spite of my food hyper-fixation because I seriously disliked the customer service here. The way they are organised is more suited to a food court or a cattle auction because they herd you to your food and WILL get visibly annoyed should you hold up their process even if it is not busy. Examples of how they will get annoyed: 1. Using CDC 2. Touching their sauce station 3. Asking too many questions 4. Them having to do their job These are what I have experienced or seen other customers experience while queuing. Their feature on my grandfather story is disappointing because they do not strike me as hawkers who enjoy their craft. Pictured is a two person half-chicken set for $20(!!!) Chicken thigh and liver $8 Set A $7
View on GoogleAverage chicken rice with acceptable service in a coffeshop setting. We went for the Set A & B set meal. Basically not enough variety beside chicken and the odd vegetable dishes. Soup was bland.
View on GoogleOrdered a set B for $8 since I was hungry and the signboard looks very delicious. Service was fast. Things served within seconds. Money collection was even faster. Disaster struck! Chicken tasted exactly like a primary school stall chicken, soft not tender. Vegetable wasn’t fresh and it was served soggy. Chili was watery. Rice wasn’t fragrant at all. The only thing that they are good is collect your money very fast. When you are hungry, everything taste well but the more you eat their chicken rice, the more fed up you get. Usually I don’t comment or bother to write if the food is not up to standard but this is disaster!
View on GoogleIt's been quite long time since I ate here. Used to be very good taste and quality of the food. Unfortunately today it wasn't the same standard. I agreed with some reviews the vegetables were over cooked and soggy. Chicken was surprisingly lack of the taste of Hainanese chicken. Rice too without the chicken rice aroma and fragrance. Sad to say the chilli which is the most important part of the chicken was too watery. The plus point was the service. It was fast and friendly. Paid $18 for two paxs. 08.01.26
