A pleasant surprise in Ikebukuro! I found myself surveying for a café while shopping and happened upon Tsubakiya Cafe. Upon entry, the atmosphere felt warm and inviting. To my surprise, the waitresses were dressed in the style of a traditional French maid, which elevated the experience to a whole new level! Other patrons were well-dressed, quiet middle age women, which made the atmosphere feel even more refined. The service was an absolute pleasure, and I was pleased to learn that they have an English menu available. Unlike places that advertise the maid experience outright, the wait staff was not overly committed to character acting, nor did they limit time spent in the café, have any cover charge, or perform theatrical performances like other maid cafés. In short, a true humble maid café experience with an upscale atmosphere, which was perfectly suited to my interest. As for the food, I had a coffee and strawberry shortcake. While sublime quality for a maid café, the simplicity of the order betrayed the flavor, and I felt that the quality of the food was extraordinarily average. However, it was edible, and presented aesthetically in the nice atmosphere of the café, so I still feel the price was reasonable. Please note that only the dessert menu was available in English. Absolutely will come back here again.
