A simple place serving one of the best shrimp katsu I’ve had 👍 Tonkatsu Tonta in Tokyo delivers a strong mix of juicy fillet and fatty loin, though the loin can feel a bit heavy on its own. The standout is the shrimp katsu, which is exceptionally plump and juicy, easily the highlight of the meal. With quiet but efficient service, a full English menu, and a likely queue outside, it is a solid and accessible choice overall.
View on GoogleNot joking when I say this is probably the best tonkatsu I've ever eaten. How a loin of pork can be so soft, juicy, and flavorful is beyond me. I think the chef is a wizard. This place is tiny, and it's only open a few days a week, but the queue begins long before the restaurant opens and wraps around the corner. We waited about an hour to finally get in. But believe me, this place is worth the wait.
View on GoogleThe chef is genuinely a master of tonkatsu, I never knew tonkatsu can be this good! Wait for about 1.30-2hrs but worth every second. I had special pork loin, the pork is tender and the panko is very light, crispy and not oily at all Very delicious! I would also recommend the shrimp and don’t miss the deep fried Aji fish. Best tonkatsu so far!
View on GoogleWow a must to try. It was AMAZING food. Go before it opens (5.30pm open). We got there 6.30pm and had to queue for 1.5hrs so I would start queuing at 5pm for early dinner. So worth it though. Go for the pork special fillet, it was abit more money but soooo tender. Adored this place and it was loved by the locals which is always a good sign
View on GoogleOne of my top 5 fave tonkatsu place. Tonta Tonkatsu - an institution around the Tacadanobaba station since 1950's. The pork served is MochiButa, a pork specially raised by feeding it starchy food only. Tonta and Narikura are the top 2 tonkatsu for locals in Tokyo. You have a choice of roast or filet. The filet is the more expensive and more tender, but does not have that much volume. The roast is more flavorful. Look at that marbling on that cut!
