Afternoon tea & seasonal dinner menus served by uniformed butlers in a cozy space with chandeliers.

8-minute walk from Ikebukuro Station. This is a concept cafe with a butler motif where you can enjoy authentic tea and traditional afternoon tea. As there are irregular holidays, we recommend that you check the business days on the website before making a reservation. Well then, all the butlers are waiting for your return.

We were curious about the maid/butler cafe' experience, and this was an entertaining way to learn! The food was great and the setting beautiful. The service was that interesting blend of fastidious service and entertaining flair with such quotes as "Please let me pour the tea. It is dangerous!" We felt pampered and thoroughly enjoyed it. One note - they do not allow photos or phones once you enter, so my only photos are of the entrance.

I left disappointed. Instead of feeling like a valued first-time guest, I felt like someone constantly trying not to break the rules. There were far more rules than actual hospitality. The English support was quite limited, making it difficult to appreciate the role-playing experience as an international visitor. For ¥12,800 and an 83-minute visit(I choose to leave 27 minutes earlier, and I was willing to pay 10 times more if it was a good experience). I expected attentive, memorable service. Unfortunately, the experience felt restrictive rather than welcoming. Even a small detail stood out: my own footman was the only one not wearing the signature tailcoat, which further diminished the immersive atmosphere-- don't know if it because I spoke English and didn'tdeserve a classic black tailcoat experience. Overall, it did not live up to the reputation or the price.

I was excited but nervous to finally come here after knowing about it since it first opened, but I had a delightful experience with my friend. The booth was comfortable and felt so fancy! It really feels like you were transported to a Victorian mansion. The food and tea were delicious, and I really liked how each tier was served by our butler. And of course the butlers were great. We had 3 over the course of our stay and they were all very attentive and kind. Would love to visit again!

Since I’m in Japan, of course I must visit the only butler cafe in Japan, and most probably in the world, Swallowtail Butler Cafe. It’s not easy to secure a reservation since tables are snapped up fast. Yes, this restaurant is that popular. And we managed to get a table! And time to get ready to enjoy the royal treatment. The experience at Swallowtail Butler Cafe is simply out of this world. I feel like a royalty when dining here. The service is top notch, with the service staff aka the butlers overseeing everything and attending to everything. Carrying the bags? They will handle it. Pouring tea? They will handle it. The cafe has that lovely English royal charm in the service crew’s etiquette and the interior of the restaurant. On top of these, there is an air of mystique that makes the experience feel so exclusive. And the food here is delicious. This cafe is a definite must-visit. Plush sofas with florid patterns on dark green background, heavy velvet dark red curtains layered with translucent curtains, wooden doors with ornate glass panels, lots of blue roses, large English porcelain vases, beautiful huge chandeliers, English teapot sets and wine glasses display, accessories adorned with pearls, motifs of rose and butterfly, the cafe is so meticulously set up to be a ultimate dining hall of the dreams. It is such a treat to immerse myself in this atmosphere. The items featured in the high tea menu aka Anna Marie are delicious and unique. I’m so impressed. Best high tea on the basis of the food? Yes! Best high tea on the basis of service? Without a doubt! Marinated Scallops and Mushrooms impresses me with its tastiness. The briny sweetness of scallops works so well together with the earthy taste of mushrooms. Prosciutto and Mashed Potato Bruschetta surprises me by how good it tastes. Prosciutto ham has a lace of nutty aroma, soft taste profile with light taste of meat, going perfectly with the mashed potato and crunchiness of the bruschetta. Salmon Shrimp Terrine is surprisingly good since I usually don’t think good of Salmon dishes due to the strong taste. The salmon is quite mellow in taste, tempered by the briny sweetness of shrimp, which actually works wonders. Scorns here are softer, more moist, more buttery than usual scones. I totally love them. Especially Earl Grey scone, which carries the light floral spicy aroma that makes the scone taste even better. Sweet Potato one is nice too. There are unique creams to go with scones, like chestnut cream cheese that I opt for. It’s so good, exploring a different taste profile. I also go for the classic clotted cream since I miss this cream so much. Sangria Jelly is soft and very refreshing, with a slight hint of alcohol. Nice! Perfect to have after the buttery rich scone Since chocolate and blackcurrant are heavier in taste on their own, I’m pleasantly surprised by how light and well-balanced Chocolate Blackcurrant Mousse. Parmesan and Basil Sable that tastes so unique and awesome, full of savoury goodness and pungency of herbs. Goes perfectly with the Rosé wine. T2 sherbet is made right on spot by pouring in liquid nitrogen to freeze the fresh Kogyoku Apple Juice to make sorbet. Lots of mist flows out of the mixing bowl, drawing the “wow” from us. It is a treat for the eyes and the mouth since the apple sherbet is natural and delicious. Thoughts: Amazing Experience

Being a big fan of shojo manga and otome games I have always wanted to go to swallowtail butler cafe and I managed to get a reservation, which can be quite difficult. I thought it might be a bit awkward going alone, but they have tables specifically for 1 person and it seems to be popular to eat solo here. It is larger inside than I expected and it was very busy, the butlers were working very hard. You are treated like a princess the moment you walk in, being called ojou-sama and having your bag carried for you by your butler. Everything is done by the butlers, such as pouring tea and water. You get a little bell on the table to ring if you need your butlers attention, but my butler was so attentive I didn't need to use it. I had afternoon tea, which was only around £25 (which is half the price of most afternoon tea places in the UK, and Swallowtail has a lot better service). The food is really nice and you get quite a lot of different things to try. I have very limited Japanese but my butler spoke very good English so I feel that you don't need fluent Japanese to enjoy yourself. The dinnerware is high quality and the butler chose a tea cup for me and he explained what the flowers are. The butlers are all different ages and they are all very handsome with really cute uniforms. You can't take photos or use your phone. I recommend bringing a book to read while you wait if you are alone.
