This place has apparently been around since 1985, serving traditional Lanzhou style spicy beef ramen from China. You can immediately tell it’s an authentic Chinese restaurant, as the menu and most of the signage are entirely in Chinese. The chef could barely speak Japanese or English, but the waitress was very friendly and hospitable, taking the time to explain both the menu and the dishes. Again, this is not a critic but a good sign for the food being authentic. You can choose from nine different noodle styles, depending on your preference. The noodles are freshly made right in front of you. You can watch the entire process, from kneading the dough to cooking the noodles and assembling the bowl with meat and vegetables. You can also customize the spice level, as well as the amount of coriander and spring onions. Having tried the original version in China, I can confidently say this is the real deal. Definitely worth marking on your list if you are visiting Ikebukuro, Tokyo’s unofficial Chinatown.
View on GoogleThe temperature inside the restaurant was really hot — even hotter than outside in summer. It made it hard to enjoy the meal comfortably. Cell signal didn’t work well inside, and there was no Wi-Fi provided, even though customers are required to order through a QR code. I ordered the Original Beef Noodle Soup. It tasted good, but for me, it was a bit too salty. Same goes for the skewers — tasty, but also way too salty. I’d love to come back again, and I hope some of these things can be improved by then. Also, since the main dishes use beef, it would be great if the restaurant could consider getting halal certification, so more people can enjoy it. Thanks and good luck improving!
View on GoogleI tried Lanzhou Chen Ji Beef Noodles, and it was amazing! The broth is rich and flavorful, with just the right amount of spice. The handmade noodles are perfectly chewy, and the sliced beef is tender and tasty. You can really feel the authentic Lanzhou flavor in every bite. The portion size is generous, and the price is very reasonable for the quality. The restaurant is clean and cozy, and the service is quick and friendly. Definitely one of the best places to enjoy authentic Chinese beef noodles! Highly recommend for anyone who loves hearty noodle soup and wants a real taste of northwest China! 🍜
