It's an unagi restaurant in 巣鴨, but there were plenty of reasonably priced dishes other than unagi written outside, so I visited for a solo lunch. The interior was slightly dim, with things like a handwritten map of nearby sights, and had a nice atmosphere. I ordered an unusual dish, salt-seasoned oyakodon It was very lightly seasoned, with shredded ginger, and had a gentle flavor that seemed good for the body. I thought the price was just for the rice bowl, but it included tofu miso soup and pickles too, making it a good-value lunch.
View on GoogleThe unagi is not as what I expected and this one the taste is quite disappointed me, especially if you compare with the price ¥7590 But the service from the waiter was great. Again I came here to eat and expected tasty unagi by the way 😅 I've been going out a lot lately and mostly eating out. Today I really wanted unagi, and when it comes to 巣鴨, there's ハッ目やにしむら, but the queue was quite long when I went, and I was hungry, so I gave up, left the shopping street, and found this unagi restaurant. After entering, I noticed there was no smell of unagi grilling. I sat down wondering about that and ordered the トモエセット and a separate shirayaki. I thought they would grill it after the order, but apparently they didn't, as there was none of the lovely grilling aroma I usually enjoy while waiting. There was still no aroma when the food arrived, and the things that suited my taste best were the liver soup and green tea. The rice was on the firm side, the sauce was ordinary and rather salty, and people sensitive to hot food can eat it immediately. The server was very kind and gave me warm green tea 2 times, so I gave it ⭐️2,5. Total 7590円 including tax
View on GooglePeople used to sweet sauce in Kansai might be surprised when they start eating? Apparently they cook using as little sugar as possible, so the unagi sauce is barely sweet. My first bite was like, huh?? But as I continued, I could really appreciate the unagi's fat and umami, and it was delicious. It may divide opinions, but I liked that eating the unaju didn't leave me feeling overly full and heavy. Displaying the unagi's size in grams also feels honest. There also seemed to be locals coming for regular lunch sets.
View on GoogleI visited for daytime drinks. I entered just after noon and there were no other customers, so I could relax. I ordered everything that caught my interest: kabayaki, shirayaki, grilled liver, grilled eel-head skewers, umaki, and pork belly skewers marinated in sake lees. The sauce was thin rather than thick, with a light flavor that let the unagi's fat come through. The liver was delicious too, without any unpleasant smell. The omelet in the umaki was seasoned sweetly. I was too full to order any, but if I get a chance to visit again, I'd like to try the loach dishes too.
View on GoogleThe unagi restaurant 【うなぎ ながしま】 is about a 3-minute walk from the north exit of 巣鴨駅 on JR山手線 Besides unagi, it's famous for loach too〜. I always pass by and kept thinking I'd go someday, and 4 years flew by before I finally visited haha I'd assumed they only had unagi, loach, sashimi, and tempura, but the menu is huge! There were loads of lunch options too, and after much indecision, I ordered kiji-don and a separate karaage! The karaage came first, with 4 big chunks piled in, freshly fried, juicy, and incredibly delicious〜, those meat juices were irresistible! The kiji-don was this beautiful!! There were 4 skewers' worth, and the special sauce matched so well that the rice just kept going down, or rather, absolutely flying down〜. I regretted never having visited even once before!
