This restaurant is a hidden gem in the Sugamo station. We went several times in our short 3 day visit for dinner and breakfast. We ordered our food from the kiosk, and received it quickly even when they were busy. I ordered several items during our few visits. My favorite though was their soba. We also really liked the cutlet. However, I wish the onions and egg were not right beneath the cutlet -- the breading got soggy. The noodles were cooked perfectly. The staff thanked us for visiting. And the restaurant was very clean!
View on GoogleHot soba, kakiage ten-tama, large portion I came here for dinner. There are ticket machines just outside the entrance and on the left once you go in; I ordered and paid there. After waiting about 3 minutes it was ready, and I went to pick it up. The soup wasn't very piping hot. The weather has been getting hot, so maybe it can't be helped, but it was a shame. The soup tasted a little strong, so I thinned it with soba-yu. That made it just right. A deep, delicious soup. The kakiage was crispy and tasty. The noodles, being hot soba, were ordinary I think.
View on GoogleA soba shop outside the ticket gates of Sugamo Station. They also have udon with the same toppings, available cold or hot. There are ticket machines inside and outside the shop. Order and pay there. The interior is compact, mostly counter seating, with some tables for two. The regular menu can be viewed on their website. However, the ticket machine lets you see more variety, including limited-time items. Water and chopsticks are self-service. I ordered the kamo tsuke soba (cold). The dipping broth is warm and rich, so it clings well to the soba and is delicious. It was served quickly, and the service was good too.
View on GoogleI stopped in for a late lunch. I had the cold kakiage soba. The noodles were on the thin side and went down smoothly — really delicious. Both the dipping sauce and the kakiage were nicely seasoned, and I was satisfied.
View on GoogleThe soba shop 【いろり庵きらくそば 巣鴨店】, right outside the ticket gate of Sugamo Station on the R Yamanote Line. It's a popular soba chain with 83 locations (as of October 2024), mainly inside stations in the Tokyo metropolitan area. If you're in a hurry you can eat at the standing area, and if you have a bit more time you can sit at a table. The Sugamo location is an awesome shop that opened on December 16, 2024 on the former site of a Midori no Madoguchi ticket office, and I finally got to go! ■What I ordered ・Cold bukkake soba → The shop's specialty is boiling authentic fresh soba in-store before serving. Since it's boiled after you order, you can really enjoy the true flavor of soba, its slippery smoothness going down, and its firm bite~. It goes perfectly with the crisp, chilled soba tsuyu — so good. ・Mini curry rice bowl → I love curry at soba shops lol The umami of the soba dashi(?) really comes through, so it's sooo good~. Soba × curry is a can't-miss combo lol To finish, I drank some soba-yu lol いろり庵きらくそば is inside stations or right outside the ticket gates, so it's convenient — definitely give it a try~. It was the perfect place for a quick bite before transferring trains, or to wrap up after a quick drink~!
