Clearly not for tourists nor Ramen enthusiasts. It's actually not so delicious. BUT, this is the place for locals spending everyday around here. The typical Showa era Japanized Chinese meals. Nowadays, this kind of stuff is under extinction. If you want to taste what is it like when Japanese are considered as economic animals, this is the place. Oh, of course you need to fluent in Japanese.

It was busy at lunchtime. I had the sweet-and-sour pork lunch set for 900円. First, the ramen: a light broth, bean sprouts, shredded nori, a little green onion, and thin, straight noodles. The noodles were fine, but I wanted a little more savory depth in the broth. The rice was fluffy, slightly sweet, and delicious. Then the eagerly awaited sweet-and-sour pork: onion, green pepper, carrot, and pork, but the sauce was lumpy and didn't coat anything at all. Disappointing. Perhaps related to that, the onion layers weren't separated and had been stir-fried stacked together, so peeling them apart revealed completely white onion. Hmm, the name 揚子江 drew me in, but the sweet-and-sour pork wasn't good.

A Chinese restaurant in Ueno serving hearty construction-worker-style meals. Above all, I want to recommend the meat ramen. It's ramen topped with an entire serving of chinjao rosu, and it's both filling and insanely tasty.

I ordered the ramen and yakiniku rice bowl set for 800円. The ramen was a simple shoyu ramen topped with bean sprouts. Simple, but it got the basics right. With no chashu, though, it felt a bit overpriced. The yakiniku rice bowl had pork and vegetables on top. The oil soaked into the rice, which I think will divide opinions. If you go when you're hungry, this sort of meal might work, but the quality wasn't satisfying enough for the price.

A Chinese-style ramen shop whose flavors would probably suit Thai tastes. The broth isn't salty or oily and tastes excellent, and the noodles are soft and chewy. Most importantly, it's inexpensive. A small, old but clean Japanese-style shop. Nicely classic, with a retro atmosphere. Definitely recommend this place.
