横山大観記念館Yokoyama Memorial Hall
Kyoto-style former home of artist Yokoyama Taikan, now a museum with exhibitions of his work.
The residence of Yokoyama Taikan, a master of modern Japanese painting, is open to the public. At the residence of Taikan, who once aspired to be an architect, you will be amazed to find that Taikan's designs were meticulously applied to everything: the guest room where he welcomed famous figures from Japan and abroad, the studio where his works were created, the interior decorations, the plantings in the garden, and more. Taikan's works, collected by art museums not only in Japan but around the world, were created in this residence's studio, and the cherry blossoms, plum blossoms, pines, maples, and other plants depicted in those works adorn the garden. Please take your time appreciating Taikan's works displayed in the tokonoma, in the very place where Taikan sat and relaxed. Because the memorial hall opens the private residence where Taikan lived, the number of works that can be displayed at one time is small…
