Food was hit or miss. Fried rice and eggplant was good, ramen was horrible (stock was thickened with something gelatinous like other Chinese food). Rice chips were good but spring rolls were very bland and strange texture. The prices were fairly good for Tokyo and they accepted credit cards so those are good points.
View on GoogleI had a chance to eat in Ueno, so I visited Izakaya Taruya which I had been interested in for a long time. It's a bit of a walk from the station, but because it's located on the opposite side of the lively Ameyoko and entertainment district, there are not many tourists, and it has the atmosphere of an old Izakaya where local regulars gather naturally. Even for the first time, there was a warm air flowing where I could feel calm. What I heard I should eat at this shop is the famous "Ebi Shinjo". Since it is said to take about 30 minutes after ordering, it is recommended to order it first when sitting down. Because it is made with painstaking effort, the umami of shrimp is packed firmly inside the crispy texture of the surface, and it was a very impressive dish. I understand why it is popular as a signboard menu. This time I also ate teppan grilled meat, and this also exceeded expectations. The meat grilled fragrantly goes very well with alcohol, and the chopsticks keep moving. There is also somewhat rare alcohol on the drink menu, and the attraction is the fun of choosing according to the cuisine. Looking into the shop, conversations between regulars and the owner fly naturally, and it conveys that it is a shop that has been loved by the region for many years. Rather than for tourists, the expression "Izakaya you want to visit if you live nearby" fits perfectly. This time I was curious but my stomach was full so I couldn't get to the fried noodles, but seeing customers around ordering, I have pleasure for next time. Together with the famous Ebi Shinjo, this is a shop I want to visit again leisurely.
View on GoogleFirst visit!! Recently I've been searching for delicious fried noodle shops in Tokyo with Google. Today to Taruya... There are thin noodles and thick noodles, today I chose thin noodles!! It was delicious as usual, but I haven't found my favorite taste yet...
View on GoogleEntered the shop after 21:00, a somewhat late time. Sat at the counter surrounding the circular teppan. A small shop with a homey air. Cheers with draft beer. Looking at the menu pasted on the wall, it seems "Ebi Shinjo" is the selling point. There is also takeout. Since it seems to take time, I ordered first. After hesitating between grilled beef tongue, celery, and thin noodles, I also added thick fried noodles. The style of grilling in front of the eyes is full of live feeling. Bright and skillful work is pleasant to watch. Grilled beef tongue appears first. I am also happy with the fried garlic topping. As I am eating celery, Ebi Shinjo which is the main role appears. Wrapped in diced bread, crispy and fluffy clothes, shrimp is plenty and very delicious. There is no lie in the signboard menu. While enjoying alcohol and cuisine, fried noodles are grilled in front of the eyes. The sound and aroma of the sauce tickle the appetite. With strong seasoning, alcohol does not stop. Shochu called Flamingo from Kagoshima is the first for me. Soda split is free. Thank you. Delicious food, affordable alcohol price, and above all, the performance in front of the counter, the live feeling is fun and time passed in a flash. A little outside the hustle and bustle of the station, but it is a good shop worth visiting. Thank you for the meal.
View on GoogleI stopped by because I went to Ueno for work. There are thick noodles and thin noodles. I chose thick noodles. Fried noodles made on the teppan in front of the eyes are delicious! Chewy but sometimes the grilling is strong and there is a crispy feeling, it felt like I hadn't eaten delicious fried noodles in a long time! The price is also affordable and good.
